I picked up and read Red River volume 1 the other day from Viz. Their marketing material calls it one of the most popular shojo of all time. Is this correct? I did some searching online about Red River and barely found any information. Any help would be appreciated.

If you search by its Japanese title of Anatolia Story, you'll find plenty of stuff.

Actually the Japanese title is "Sora wa Akai kawa no Hotori" which literally translates out to "Heaven is in the vicinity of the Red River." And the "popular" part is probably talking about in Japan where it placed high in the top ten every time a new volume came out.

Thanks, folks. That's probably an ongoing problem with me. I never know the original title.

This manga is basically about romance between the main characters. You'll enjoy it if you're into romance.

I finally went ahead and wrote a review of volume 1. You can find it at comicreaders.com.

I really like Red River, though I can't figure out why they changed the title for the US release. It's a very long series which I heard runs from 20-50 volumes, so... you have to be a big fan to collect this. I will admit, I got quite hooked on it as the story progresses in other volumes.
