A long time ago, I read some really funny anime capsule summaries. I believe it was "T.H.E.M. Minute Anime" but www.themanime.org has completely changed since then and the minute reviews don't seem to be there anymore. The point of those "minute anime" was to poke fun at various series by summarizing them in a ridiculously brief yet oh-so-recognizable way. For example, the Evangelion summary went something like this:
Quote:
Shinji: "I have no spine."

Rei: "I have no personality."

Asuka: "I have no humility."

Misato: "I have no responsibility."

Gendou: "I have no morals."

Director: "I have no ending."

Audience: "Oh my gosh! This is the best anime we've ever seen!"

THE END

Another characteristic of those minute anime was that descriptions where peppered with capitalized words to underscore the "crucial plot points", like this Saber Marionnette J summary I found here :
Quote:
Otaru: I'm a lonely kid living in a world of men.

(OTARU awakens the MARIONETTES: Lime, Cherry and Bloodberry).

Lime: Otaru DAISUKI!

(LIME has a MORAL CRISIS. OTARU rescues her. LIME learns an IMPORTANT LESSON.)

(REPEAT for 26 EPISODES)

So... would someone happen to have a backup/copy of those minute anime summaries lying around somewhere? Or post your own here... if you think you're funny enough Wink

I don't have what you're asking for, but the idea for the list came from http://rinkworks.com/bookaminute/

The feature was called Reduced Anime. I'm *still* looking for where I backed that up ... we managed to recapture some of it in the Wayback Machine.

I'll see what I can find when I get home.

I was thinking that all short anime reviews should be in haiku form.

Ex:

Pita-Ten

Glomping girl next door
Demon roommate who likes to cook
Let the sugar flow

Evangelion

Whiny boy with robot
an ice queen and a loud b^t#h
the end of the world?

Easy...

The Wings of Honneamise

In the midst of war,
The spaceship on its launchpad.
But will it take off?

- - -

Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou

Quiet time passes
In the small country café.
Another coffee?

- - -

Kumo no you ni, kaze no you ni

The emperor's wife
Eats three meals a day and naps.
Empires will all fall.

Hmm. I wonder if a more complicated form might be useful... spenserian stanza?

Oh, I've gotta try this. . .

Ikki Tousen

Panty shots, near nudes
A fan service paradise.
Oh, and fighting, too!

Damn it... I did a bunch of movie haiku last summer, but only one of them in my blog is anime. I could have sworn that I did a Kiki's Delivery Service one.

Tenchi Muyo! in Love

Mom is in trouble,
Back in Nineteen-Seventy!
Fight Kain in Tokyo!

EDIT: Oh, I found some more I did.

My Neighbor Totoro

Mei and Satsuki,
Think they see fuzzy creatures.
Their dad plays along.

Kiki's Delivery Service

Young witch in city!
Life is tougher than I thought.
Magic gone? It's back!

I'll try my hand at summarizing Super Gals!.

Quote:
RAN: I'm the Queen of Shibuya!

CHIEF KOTOBUKI: Ran, be a police officer, like me and your mother and your brother, Yamato.

RAN: No. Now I will go and dance some Parapara.

YAMATO: Stop hanging out at my police station! This isn't a clubhouse!

MIYU: Have a drink, Yamato. I love you so much for listening to my troubles and making me turn sweet.

EVERYONE ELSE: Aww... they're such a nice couple. Let's ignore their nine-year age difference. In Japan, it's completely normal and not at all scandalous for rookie police officers to fall in love with the juvenile delinquents they arrest.

AYA: I might seem like a quiet, shy, overachieving student, but I'm dating an older guy for money, and there's nothing you can say to me to change my mind!

RAN: Don't do that.

AYA: Okay, I won't anymore. I'll love Rei instead, but I'm shy, so I'll wait for him to say something affectionate to me before I confess my feelings.

REI: ... (Oblivious, in a stoic-but-cool manner.)

AYA: (Agonizing) Why doesn't Rei like me?

YUYA: (Thinking to self.) I will now do something to impress Ran! Look at me Ran and fall in love!

TATSUKI KUROI: Hey, that looks like fun! I'll do the same thing but, even though it's my first time, I'll do it slightly better than you, whilst randomly interjecting English words and monkey sounds! LET'S PARTY! Ooki!

RAN: Wow, Tatsukichi, you're so cool! Nice attempt, Second Place (Yuya), now do my homework for me!

YUYA: Why can't I ever win? But I'm happy to do homework for Ran. (Tulip erupts from forehead for no reason.)

MAMI: I'm a rich bitch, and I challenge you, Ran! Shibuya sucks!

RAN: No it doesn't!

MAMI: Bah, you won this round, Ran Kotobuki. (Goes back to Ikebukuro.)

SINGLE-APPEARANCE CLASSMATE: I'm having a crisis.

RAN: C'mon gang, let's solve it and give a speech with a lesson!

FAT ALBERT: Isn't that the plot for my cartoon?

We tried that for a while -- that was fun. Of course, this was *years* ago when our knowledge of anime wasn't nearly so good. Smile

Kawajiri you genius
So fluid eye bleeds

Escaflowne the movie

Girl depressed, transported
Volken crushed, says kill them all
Huh?! Why same ending?

Rah Xephon

Not Eva, not Eva, no!
For god’s sake I am not Eva!
Think I am better?

Good try Tenchi, but the point is not actually to summarize the anime but rather to oversimplify it to the extreme. Case in point, Akira:
Quote:
Kanedo: Tetsuoooooooo!

Tetsuo: Kanedaaaaaaa!

(Tokyo EXPLODES)

Hmm. I had a look at them, and they weren't really as funny as you'd made them out to be. Well, the Evangelion one was, and so was the Utena one - but the rest were pretty dull stuff.

"I think we can do better than that."
