Hi
I was looking for the top rated animes by the ANN staff. Animes that have got scores higher than B+. There was no option in the review section for showing the reviews in the order of the review score. Thanks in advance! |

Unfortunately we don't have any kind of mechanism on this site to do an automated sort of this nature. If there's enough interest, though, then I suppose we could see about doing some kind of feature or forum piece about this.

I hardly agree with review scores so I don't see the point. You're better off checking overall ratings or just a reliable user's anime list.

Hi,
I'm interested in experimenting with rating and searching too. I recently went through the ANN reviews, selecting any with a 4.5 or 5 rating. This led me to some nice entertainment but... it was slow and not always yielded themes or genres I was looking for. I've also used the Theme/Genre searches on ANN. It works but OK... I'm not quite satisfied with the rating system. By viewer popularity I think? It seems like this results lean toward the lowest common denominator. A few popular titles always top the lists. I was thinking a weighted rating system might be nice. I know there are titles that I would like to see grouped more closely on lists. Maybe well reviewed, but not widely known or popular (at least with people who bother to rate titles on ANN). Anyway, here is an example of some titles and I think they share something in common but... I can't seem to configure search criteria to return them in a list, grouped more closely (as I imagine they could be). Paprika Dead Leaves Ergo Proxy Gankutsuou I'd love to find other titles that would cluster with these in search returns. I know they are out there. I wonder if I can refine my search criteria? Or would it require new ANN measurements and search tools? Thanks, bogus.bogusone Last edited by bogusone on Mon Sep 05, 2011 12:38 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Create an anime list, rate your favorite titles (preferably lower score to stuff you disliked) and search for like-minded users afterwards.
I forgot where to find it, but there's such a feature somewhere. Other than that only top lists and recommendation threads, really. |

Go to the "My Anime" option under the my ANN tab, choose the "see other people's anime lists" option in the Organize and Discover box (on the right-hand side), and you'll see a "like-minded" option along with the alphabetical options.

Actually, I would not mind seeing something like this, I like all sorts of ratings. Although I suspect it would e a complicated operation. |

You can locate reviews with certain ratings by using google search terms like the following

I would propose a "ghetto" solution for right now. It involves simply using the basic search engine with the following strings:
"overall (sub) : B+" "overall (sub) : A-" "overall (sub) : A" "overall (sub) : "A+" That will simply give a list of of webpages that have that exact string (be sure to put it in quotes), which will typically be the ANN anime reviews that actually Here for instance are the results for the first (B+) search query. EDIT: Well played, Shiroi, well played. |

You actually don't need to include A+ and A- since A on it's own catches them both anyway.

Having gotten this information, I do hope you go on to read the reviews. What the reviewer says about why they like or don't like a show is more important than the letter grade.
You will not necessarily like the same things in a show. Heck, the reviewers don't always agree on the same show or type of show. This is how it should be. The letter grade is just a starting point. |
