Why do we need an autobiography?

Because it's Miyazaki, and everything he touches turns to gold?
All joking aside, I would like to see this. Although, if he's doing someone else's story, wouldn't that be a biography? I mean, even if it's adapted from their autobiography, it'd still be a biography, I'd think... |

Interesting..this will be something very new and different coming from Miyazaki..first time a title will not be set in a fantasy world.

Whichever the case, it'd still be an instant hit.

Porco Rosso was, in some sense an autobiography, wasn't it? i wonder if this will really be a Porco rosso sequel since hesaid he was interested in making one. Either way, the most shocking thing about this is it would be a Miyazaki film completely set in contemporary times, in reality. Of course, it might have some fantastic elements like Whisper of the Heart did. I'm eager to see what happens.

Yeah, I'm sure Miyazaki would be working an autobiography by someone else. But of course!

It wouldn't be the first time for anime, or even for Studio Ghibli. animenewsnetwork.com/news/2001-03-01/studio-ghibli-to-re-publish-sakuga-asemamire animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-06-10/ai-kawashima-august-symphony-film-to-open-in-august anime#924 |

Egan, When someone points out a part of a quote, it's to indicate an issue with the text as written. In this case, it's not possible for Miyazaki to work on an autobiography and it cover someone else. Autobiography is a works done by the author about themselves. Hence, the title is misleading if he's not doing it about himself. Hope this clears things up. |

The vagueness is due to the original quote by Suzuki. The people at the event noted that Suzuki did not make clear if he meant that Miyazaki is creating his own autobiography, or adapting someone else's autobiography. |

Perhaps also, since the announcement was made in Japanese there are more aspects to the word play that we are not aware of.
Besides, autobiography and biography are different not just in the sense of who wrote it, but in the way it was written. A biography is normally written in third tense (he/she did this...) whereas an autobiography is normally written in first tense (I did this...). So there is a difference when you say "Miyazaki is adapting someone else's autobiography" and "Miyazaki is adapting someone else's biography." Just saying. Regardless, I am very excited to see what he produces! |
