Hey everyone I'm a new member, and I'd like to say this is an amazing site. Anyways I have a question, 6 years ago we all know and loved the anime series Elfen Lied.
After it was finished, it was announced that there wouldnt be a second season, and many people started to petition. As I heard there were over 200,000 people who petitioned (around the globe).
So whatever happened? (Sorry I'm asking I just recently finished watching it on Netflix)
And um, in episode 13 was that really Nyu?
Oh I also forgot, I heard that Lynn Okamoto and Mamoru Kanbe also fought/argued about the anime, why? and what happened?

I've heard the original author was severely depressed when she wrote Elfen Lied, which is why it ended up such an emo gorefest. Chances are a second season wasn't made because she recovered from her depression.

Really? Oh and btw Lynn Okamoto is a male, so is Mamoru Kanbe. But no one has still answered all of my questions.

There was no second season made. There is absolutely no indication that there will be any new Elfen Lied anime made.
As to whether the girl at the door at the end of the series is actually Lucy. Technically, it's unknown. There are various theories that say it was Lucy, some that it was "Nyu", and others that it was neither.
Personally, I think it was Lucy with "Nyu" integrated back into her. Just before she shows up, before Kohta goes to the door, the dog begins to bark. If you recall back to where Lucy met with Kohta before heading off to her final battle, the dog began to bark (happily) at Lucy before Kohta turned around... it was the same sort of barking, which leads me to believe that it was the same person in both instances, that being Lucy.
But ultimately, there is no true/final answer to this. I've only given you *my* answer to it, and the one I most want to be true.
As for your last question: I have no idea. Can't help you on that one.

I pretty much always thought it was something similar to what Tuor said, although for different reasons. The music box stops, and the grandfather clock that Nyu really liked started to work (it was always broken as far as Khota could remember but now it works, just like she could have been looked at as "broken" emotionally.) They are obviously symbolic because of their placement, within seconds of the end. I always thought of the music box that played Lilium represented Lucy.

I hate to be "that guy" but you should read the manga, everything will make more sense then.

That's not true at all. The end of the anime was nowhere near the manga in terms of plot, and thank God for that, because believe it or not, that anime is the more tasteful version of the story.

As Yttrbio said, the manga and the anime tell two different, but very similar stories. I haven't read the manga, though I have heard plenty about it, and from that I decided that I prefer the anime's version and have no desire to read the manga. YMMV.

There is no second season(although one can still hope).
The Anime stops at about Vol. 6, there are 12 vol. total.
If you thought the anime was dark and violent, the last six vol. are really dark and violent!
The manga was never( as far as I now),released in english.
You can download all 12 vol. on line in english( I had to).
The extra episode is generaly called 10.5( because that is about where it would fit in the series), it does explain a few of Lucy's motivations.
The episode 10.5 can also be downloaded off the internet.
I love this series so much, I own 3 licensed copies of the series and the Japanese Manga( which I can not even read),plus all the downloaded manga and episodes.
