No surprise here. It was only a matter of time.

With the extremely limited distribution, that it raked in $1 Million is good news, anyway.
btw, related to this, has anyone hear any more news about Appleseed since the announcement of the theater locations and dates? I'm sure the producers of Appleseed are probably worried, considering GITS 2's low sales. |

Problem with japanese animated films(or any foreign films)here in america is that even with a major company backing it and a major award(an academy award mind you) it can and only will do so much.A good chunk of the american public is not ready for such films. The problem is simply most american can not get past the idea of foreign films and/or serious highly intelligent animated stories. They are to used to watered down material like most of disney products. It is good to see that this movie did as well as it did.

DW released the film in just the right number of theaters, and that did very well for them. This kind of theatrical release seems like its primary purpose is to raise awareness for the DVD release anyway. I've heard a friend in the industry describe producing DVDs as "like a license to print money." You don't hear that about theatrical runs.

Personally im happy with this news, any awareness if good awareness. Even though it was a really really limited play (if i went to see it, i would of had to travel 5 hours..)
But im glad that roughly 142857 got to enjoy it on the big screen domesticly, it may not seem like a big step..but it really is if you take into the spectrum what currently has been the only movies to make "quaint" releases. *Gaurds his collectors R2 Gits:2* |

Where is the original report that says it has broke $1 million? BoxofficeMojo still says it has made $941,344

http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=127841 I imagine DW stopped releasing daily box office returns on 11/4 and that's why BoxOfficeMojo has yet to catch up. |
