For you One Piece fans who don't check out FUNimations website, about a week ago they put up a survey. Be sure to fill it out. They asked if you have bought the comics, DVDs, merchandise, and asked what merchandise what you like to see. There where some other things but I forget.

Thanks for the heads up. I would have missed the survey otherwise. I hope this means that they'll be announcing that they've licensed more episodes soon.

Filled it out already.
I am positive this survey has something to do with them getting more of the series. There was that other survey where they asked if we would buy things like Princess Jellyfish on DVD/Blu-ray. A week or so later they announced that they got the home release rights to the show (which I plan to buy when its available). I also hope they'll pick up some of the movies like Dead End no Boken, Norowareta Seiken, and Strong World. Movies 1-3, in my opinion, weren't very good. |

I filled it out. I mentioned that I hoped Funimation can land the licence for more shows.
I suppose the general purpose for this survey is to determine the market for more One Piece here in the States. Let's hope that they feel there's good profit to be made by getting more One Piece! |

This makes no sense. I've yet to hear anything positive from FUNimation this series is selling well, which would be a kick in the crotch it's still being picked up during lack of sales while When They Cry (and others) get axed. As for the topic's link, pass. Nothing against the series, just never seen it despite the great praise it receives. Not ready for a long-term series just yet, and Inuyasha comes first (since I've yet to get past season 3). |

How does it make no sense? Usually when they break out a survey it influences their decision on licensing a series for home release (or in this case getting more of the show). Hate to say it but One Piece's popularity is 100x bigger then Higurashi's. People have always asked about the 4th season on Funimation's FB page and forum. They only started to whine about more Higurashi after that statement was made on the forums about them not getting anymore of the show. I do think it was funny that the answers for the "How many One Piece DVD/BDs do you own" question was like between 1, 2, 3-5, or 6+ or something like that. I'm pretty sure 6 was the maximum number. I'm still a bit behind in the early 3rd season, so I put 6+ but you'd think they would have an option for "all that have been released" or something so they could see how many are still buying the sets as soon as they release since 6 DVDs wouldn't even be enough for the "second voyage" I think.

The want for the 4th season of OP has only came up around the time of the announcement of the first collection and 3rd season's 5th voyage. They've whined about getting Answers on Funi's old board plenty as soon as WTC was announced. |

It took me like 15 seconds to realize you weren't trying to say that the World Trade Center was announced.
And the Higurashi franchise is quite loved in Japan, so I wouldn't be surprised if the asking price is simply too large even if there is a small group of fans for it here. |

I've been on the FB page since Feb and the forums since March. I've seen people ask about more One Piece constantly before the last (at least for now) part set came out near the end of April. I never once seen Higurashi or Zero get mentioned until someone from Funimation finally told us what the deal was with the shows and ANN made an news article of it. They also said in the forum post to ask Sentai or another company to grab the series. Sentai's page then had a sudden explosion of "PLEASE LICENSE THESE SHOWS!!!!" comments. Nobody seemed to care about those two shows until FUNi had to balls to say that they were done with them. It was the same with Kodocha and Case Closed. People only want things desperately when they get discontinued. Where have they been back when those shows were getting DVD releases? How come they are suddenly passionate about these shows now? |

There you are know informed. That thread started on the new forms back on 2/25/2011, which is just a continuation of a similar thread from the old forums. The requests for Answers had been rolling before the Funi said they would not license more. The request thread for more WTC was in the Mystery and more section of the old forums along with the request threads about more Case Closed. You can say you aren't familiar with them but don't confuse your unfamiliarity as a fact they didn't exist. |

I am aware of this thread, thanks. I was not denying it's existence. Maybe me saying never is a little excessive but I barely saw people post in the Higurashi thread. 6 pages since Feb 25th 2011, not including the other pages as they are just of people talking about their disappointment for FUNi discontinuing the series, of requests that hold 10 posts per page is hardly "rolling in for requests". Memory serves me right the WTC thread, that contain requests for more of the series, on the old forum wasn't that big either. If there was so many die hard fans of this show then the current thread would be massive, before they announced the discontinuing of the series, and the sales of the series wouldn't have been so poor. I am disappointed about Higurashi getting discontinued but I can honestly say that I really haven't seen many of the fans mentioning wanting more it, especially on the forum here, until after the license expiry announcement was made. I am not sure why you are arguing with me about this. Like DBZ, One Piece just happens to be a very popular title and more well know then shows like Higurashi. If the sales for OP weren't doing so well then they wouldn't have released 205 episodes and 1 of the movies, so far, nor have made this survey saying that they "needed our feedback". Where was a survey for Higurashi? Or Kodocha? Or even Case Closed? Simple, not enough demand for any of those series. You can't deny that people want more of the popular shows such as OP (hell, people have even been asking for more DBZ even though, aside from Kai, the show has long ended). I'm not going to argue with you about it any more so I am done. |

I am not arguing about subjective popularity. Everything I did was just to confirm that people's request for certain series did not just start after Funimation confirmations of non-renewal. Was it many people? All I know it was more than 0 and less than a drunk 8. As for the thread itself. 105 replies and almost 6000 views for one thread on that new forum is pretty high and looks to be one of the most trafficked threads there. Not sure why you are using quotes for "rolling in for requests", as I only used the word "rolling" as meaning "being underway."
Before you go parroting Funimation's proclamation about poor sales consider the fact Funi is only counting sales of their re-release and not Geneon's sets. Maybe not every series can be re-released 9001 times in under a year and make a profit every time. Maybe if the number of people that bought Geneon's sets and people that got Funi's collection would all buy Answers it would be profitable.(well since Geneon isn't around the only version out would have been from Funi.) |

There's been more then 6 sets released. Theres also a episode 1-26 coming out on the 26th, then a 27-53 in September. The one question that I remember being funny was "How many volumes of the manga do you own?" The highest number was 11+, I thought it was funny cause I own... volumes 14-35. lol
I would love to see a source for that... I see it thrown around a lot. It just seems odd they wouldn't take those sales into account. They've been working with Geneon USA for a wile and have access to video scan numbers. But what do I know? |
