Ok, I heard that later on in the series, it gets sadistically sick and violent instead of being cute and funny. Can anyone who watched the entire series tell me how violent it really is? I don't mind spoilers though.

It is sadistic enough that spoiler[one of the main characters kills her parents.]

The series gets quit dark later on. It's definitely one of the sickest animes I seen so far and the scenes are quite graphic. Since you asked for it, here are some spoilers:
spoiler[ -a depressed kid kills her dad -a bullied kid forced to eat worms, uses her dragonet (monster pet) to get revenge and tortures the bullies to death. -some other kids kill people just because they have the power.] |

I haven't seen the anime, but I read the first half of the manga, which corresponds with the end of the Anime series. The thing that sticks in my mind is that not only spoiler[do the bullies force the girl to eat worms, the head bully (also an elementary school student, who, it is inferred, is sleeping with adults,) uses a test tube to break the hymen of the girl being bullied. Then, when the revenge is exacted by the monster pet... let's just say it uses it's claws to do roughly the same thing to the bully.] |

Hmmm, I think I might start to watch that. I find it a bit unusual (and therefore interesting) that someone could put such a realistic twist on the pokemon genre. Because let's face it, if you gave immense power to immature kids in the form of monsters that obey their control... all of a sudden the balance of power is broken. Kids are no longer constrained by adults and can do whatever they please. And I do not subscribe to the philosophy that all kids are basically good at heart. No, kids can be quite cruel sometimes.

It's no worse than the original version of Digimon, where they kills humans alot, or Pocket Monsters, where they eat humans alive and stuff.
Just most people haven't seen the original versions of those shows. |
