I've always wondered what happens at all these cons? I know companies sometimes announce what they're bringing stateside and all, but what else happens? I've pondered about going to one, but only if its worth the trip.

Lots of things happen at conventions, including anime screenings group discussions about different aspects of anime and japanese culture, showcases of merchandice, VA's, webcomic people industry insiders, cosplay(dressing as anime charecters) and dances.
Chcek out a www.anime-cons.com for a con near you. I would recomend attending one, thewy are loads of fun. |

I've only been to one con, Ushicon, but they had tons of stuff going on.
There was a video game room, a cosplay (dress-up) show, an artist gallery, anime trivia games, a go (a chess-like Japanese board game) lesson, a Japanese pop/rock music video room, anime showing rooms (About 3 rooms going at once! So many things to watch!) , and of course . . . The dealers room. One humongus room covered wall to wall with anime goods. Videos, DVDs, posters, books, comics, CDs, plush toys . . . you name it. Tons of really cool import stuff. Of course, that was just at one convention, but there are tons of other con's out there. And Ushicon is a small one. ![]() |

Yea, but is everything going to be sold at MSRP, or am I actually gonna get good deals there?

I go to cons for the guest and the cosplay.
Sometimes they get some Japanese musical artist to perform if you go to a big enough con, and each con sets up their own unique anime-related activites that are usually a lot of fun.
I don't go to cons for buying stuff. I find everything cheaper online. |

As Littlegreenwolf said, the most exciting things from the cons are seeing some anime celebrities or j-musicians performing at live...I'm not good at cosplay, hehe.
But that's also important. Every country is starting to prepare for the Third International Cosplay Competition at Nagoya, Japan. And, the States will have some representatives...Which I believe they're chosen at some con cosplay contest. |

I've only been to one con so far (Oni-Con 2004), and it seemed that some booths were selling at MSRP and some had really good deals there. Cons are cool. I recomend going to one, there are a lot of interesting random people you can talk to. |

People try and rip you off by selling you overpriced merchandise. That's why it called a "con".

Depends on the dealer & convention. My booth usually sell at prices we normally charge at our store, but then we start to drop the prices on Sunday so we don't have to take as much home. We are also more willing to haggle over price throughout the con. Some companies will make up their prices because of the extra expense of renting booth space & travel expenses to be there. Others are discount dealers anyway, since they don't have a storefront to pay for, so their prices are pretty low. That's the best part of the dealer's room is that you can shop around and compare prices. |
