OK, usually I'm pretty sharp at figuring out a director's intentions and interpreting subtext and all; but tonight I was just mystified. For all of you who have seen episode 3 you know what I'm refering to: the movie reference. I understand that the perp and his android/jerri were acting out movie scenes, the only question is why. When Togusa saw this scene played out on T.V. was he discovering something? Was there any deeper meaning? A conspiracy underfoot? If this is something that we're going to come back to later, please - no spoilers!

The whole point of it, is that in the end, she actually loved him. If you noticed at the end, the lines she says that are not in the movie. She said "I'm sorry, I really loved you." Basically sacrificed herself for him.

No, it doesn't come back in the future eps. If you noticed the subtitile, it's a stand-alone episode. Stand-alone eps are episodic while complex eps tie in with the main plot.

The Jerri was only acting out the movie that they must have watched, and thats why he was doing what he was doing. The Jerri recited the movie word for word, but with a slight difference, she actually did love him, instead of saying that she really did love him.

When he came home, the movie's dialogue seemed familiar to what the Jerri said, so he kept going over that part.

yes! you saw that the guy was into movies and he liked to watch them with his jerri. But if you listen she says i don't wan't to love you. That means that she did love him but she didn't want to anymore.

Well, if you remember earlier in the episode, McLachlan had infected all the other Jeri's to make them go crazy. Though ironicially, when that last Jeri stopped him, the group (Section 9) was trying to figure out why she did it.

They know that McLachlan had implemented a protection program to keep his Jeri from going wacko like the rest, which left Section 9 to thinking, if she wasn't infected, then how could she still have done what she did?

Being a big movie freak, I'm sure McLachlan had watched that particular movie with his Jeri several times. I'm not sure if the scene at the end was just a coincidence or something, but based on my speculation, I think McLachlan's scene and the scene from the movie were supposed to speculate on the "ghost" theory.

Being an android, you wouldn't really expect that Jeri to do anything in resemblence to human behavior, but for some reason, that extra line she said that wasn't in the movie seemed to imply otherwise.

Like Kazuki-san said, she basically sacrificed herself to save him. A very human act to do for a non-human creation...

Again, I am still a n00b here, but what I thought of that extra line was possibly the existance or beginnings of an "ghost" in the android in addition, to the fact that a non-human thing doing a humane act.

If you remember back in the car, while he was staring at the Jerri, they use the exact same dialogue from the movie. Perhaps McLachlan realized that there was no escape for him long before he realized the cops were after him or that his embassy denounced his diplomatic immunity. Since the Jerri watched that movie with McLachlan and he loved it so, the Jerri was doing a favor for McLachlan by saving his life in a manner most fitting of his cinema tastes.
