Hopefully this is a second season. Though I would have thought that they would wait until the end of Nationals before the second season was made.

This is great news to hear and I'm hoping Crunchyroll's working on getting it licensed because I don't see any distributor in the US picking this one up, especially for dubbing.
@mudduck454:
How so? The season ended, nicely, after the preliminaries. I had expected season 2 would be nationals, then end its run.
Of course, I base this solely on the 13 episode series development and not the story itself, as I have no idea what happens to the story after nationals as I don't read manga.
I can't imagine too much happening after nationals with the story, especially trying to keep it Mahjong related.
Well, that is unless Saki discovers a Striker unit in her garage.

I'd always hoped that someone (Sentai, Media Blasters) would find it in their hearts to bring the first series over. However, I have a feeling the market for mahjong anime here in U.S. would be pretty small, even with the various tropes of girls in it.

They ran out of manga to animate. In fact, they were ahead of the manga when they finished.

I was actually amazed at how well the Saki anime handled the end of the Prefectural tournament and then the individual tournament. Rare is it to see something executed that well after it surpasses the manga source.

It's interesting, because there's a pretty good market for Mahjong in the US (though the rules are different). I dabbled in it years ago, but that was about it. I'd like to see a good game imported for home consoles, as the one currently on Xbox Live hasn't been getting any good reviews/scores across the board.
A shame, too, because the game was fun when I played it. Those who believe it's a tile matching game are in for a world of surprise if they ever watch the series.
I'd rather Media Blasters pick it up than Sentai. I'm mad at them right now, and prefer to stay away from their subtitled products for a while.

I wonder if Studio Gonzo will be producing this new series, as it looks like they recovered enough to make a new Last Exile series, as well as that Copihan series with the Hatsune Miku character designer.

The team is over at Studio Gokumi (A-Channel) now.......hiring them might be a good choice, although you never know what the producers have in mind.

I honestly think Gonzo is awesome for producing series with any sort of Yuri/action/fanservice. Take for example Strike Witches, it was one the few anime that I actually kept waiting for every week. Not to mention, they did a splendid job with making Saki's first 14 episodes or so episodes, if they can keep performing like they used to, or even do better than before, I am sure everyone will like Saki again.
