This looks like it might be a LOT of fun, and the ticket prices are actually pretty reasonable, especially for students (its only like $25 bucks for a full weekend pass).
My friend at Otakuden on Broadway informed me yesterday that they would be showing ONLY films and series' which have not yet been publically screened in the US and rumor has it they will screen more than 12 films and 25 serial episodes, including Satoshi Kon's Paranoia Agent, Kukarenbo, and some new live action anime like Cutie Honey and Ninja Hatori Kun. The flyer I picked up for this has Samurai Champloo on it too! I am definitely going to this, anybody else in the tri-state area interested? Anybody wanna meet up? I think a lot of people will come out to this becaue so far the content sounds great, and also because BAAF is no longer happening so this would be the only large-scale anime event happening in NYC this year. i just found the flyer. pretty nice, definitely caught my attention: ![]() |

Just a technicality, you know. If you say that Times Square is the heart of NYC, and then you measure the physical distance between the sites, it's comparible. I think Tribeca is something like 2 miles away from Times Square, and AnimeNEXT is something like 3 miles. But little things like state borders and the Hudson River get in the way. ![]() If AnimeNEXT held a convention in Brooklyn, they could say that they were in NYC, but physical-distance-wise, they'd actually be further from Times Square. Geography's a bitch. ![]() |

Yes it IS just a technicality.
![]() anyway, its nothing to argue about. TECHNICALLY animenext does not take place in NYC. TECHNICALLY eNerGy festival does ![]() Anyways, I hope people are excited about it being IN nyc because I surely am. I was SOOOO dissappointed when i found out BAAF was cancelled because of the stupid convention. Don't you think NYC deserves its own grand scale anime events? |

Yes, I do. But it's expensive to run things in the city, and the only really large space is the Javits Center where there are no hotels nearby. You could do it in some of the bigger hotels too, like the Sheraton in Times Square. The Marriott Marquis just doesn't have enough function space... But that's expensive too, and all your attendees will be paying over $200 to stay there. A real convention has to be in a hotel, where you can stay up all night for room parties and watch anime. I hate the events you have to commute to each day. It's just not the same. NYC just wasn't built for anime conventions; that's the reality of the situation... |

I would agree. However, this doesn't say convention anywhere. I believe it's mostly a film festival with an exhibitor's area open all day long sponsored by some of the big companies. This is happening at a giant movie theater, not really a convention at all. eNerGy looks more to offer a cinematic anime experience as opposed to a anime culture experience. It's not about cosplay or otaku-dom, IT'S ALL ABOUT THE FILMS BABY!
So where you at? Are you interested in attending this event? |

Yes, I'll be there. Someone offered a free pass to me. I'll probably just be there Sunday to check things out.

MY school is ON 199 Chambers Street. I didn't know what's worse about this: that I didn't know about it or the $25 price
![]() EDIT: Wait, that's IN MY SCHOOL!! ![]() |

I could've gotten in free but I decided to go to the Big Apple Con instead. I heard they showed an English dubbed episode of Naruto on Sunday, is this true?
