Huh. I really liked Scryed, but I didn't know it was popular enough to get this kind of rerelease.
Here's hoping it gets released stateside. I want to see what zany new antics Cougar gets up to in this version.

Sounds nice. This was the first anime series my brother bought and watched together with me. Good memories!

Definitely not. Bebop's had a remastered version out for years in Japan, and it's 100x more popular over here than s-cRY-ed, yet Bandai has done absolutely nothing to bring it over.

I wonder if the new footage is just 5 minutes of "KAAAAAZUUUUUMMMMMAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!" and "RRRYYYYUUUUUUHHHHOOOOOO!!!!!"
Seriously though, was Scryed EVER that popular? I remember the manga was a lot more graphic than the anime, but I don't get why Scryed is getting a revisit. Is it common on anniversary times for shows to get revisited? Or is it just a cost cutting feature?

That a manga is more violent than an anime is very common. The scryed manga was based on the anime. I really liked the anime. I tried reading the manga, but was stopped when seeing its character designs.

There's always a small chance we'd get it, but you're right, which saddens me a lot. I love s-CRY-ed way more than I do Bebop and would love to get this on DVD.

I LOL'd.

I have the first two volumes and I can see why that would do that...it certainly got to me, ugh. I'm shuddering just remembering it. I do want the other three volumes eventually though.

I think the real question I'm baffled no one has bothered to ask here is just what the heck "two volumes" means in this case? Are we talking about two OVAs, or two movies, or two 13-episode volumes, or what? My money is on the former two possibilities. It seems we're talking OVA here, possibly feature-length, but not a TV run. However, might it end up stateside? Perhaps...

I'm assuming it's two OVAs or films myself, yeah.
Something else I just noticed that interested me - it says this is 'part of the Scryed 10th Anniversary Project'. That seems to imply there's more to come. What else could it be I wonder?

Let's hear it for anime rivalries!
I'm still rather surprised that this series would get some sort of anniversary edition. I liked it as much as the next person, but I also know that it probably isn't some great classic.

Bandai is cranking out a bunch of figures in the SHFiguarts line for this series. I'm sure there'll be some other goodies as well.
As for what we're actually getting, running the source on the article through Bing I get "Special Edition onto the digital-remastered all 26 episodes TV series, add new parts, composed new dubbing in the prequels." Sounds to me like 13 on each volume.
Oh, and about Bandai not releasing any other versions of Cowboy Bebop over here, a lot of it probably has to do with how over saturated the market is with original singles (VHS and DVD), remixed singles, various box sets, and years of broadcasting on Adult Swim. There's no room for anything other than BD at this point.

Ooh. They'll probably be really pricey, but I hope those figures end up on RightStuf so I can at least consider getting them. Done right, some figures would be really cool looking.
So it is a DVD (or BluRay) re-release of the series, basically? My interest just dropped a little bit, but the 'prequel' bit sounds promising. Maybe something to do with the 'Great Uprising' and why it really happened.

S-cry-ed makes a return possibly, Mai HiME did blu ray special last year. So is this possibility for both of them make a big comeback into the series. Those two series were really and new series for them in the future soon.

Strange that the term "prequel" somehow came out of that. I'd think ANN's report is far more likely to be accurate than a rough machine translation by Bing.
I've just run the same text through a couple of other online translation services and the results are rather different from Bing's version. In other words, it's probably for the best to not get carried away with too many literal interpretations here, since none of those services are supposed to be perfect.
But going by what Sunrise has usually done, each volume will most likely turn out to be a compilation feature covering about half the series, instead of a full re-release of the actual show. That's all the so-called "Special Editions" of many of their anime titles are: compilations. I don't think Scryed's will be any different in this respect.

Perhaps I'm missing where the problem is in that sentance?

"Footage" seems like an overly vague term, maybe they will just throw some new wasteland critters into the background along with 2-minutes of scenes spread throughout the whole collection.
