Personally I enjoyed what I've seen of DN Angel (granted I have only seen a few episodes). I enjoyed the story line, art, and the characters. I am probably going to buy the DVD when it comes out, or at least rent it, and refresh my memories of it. In your opinions what makes the series bad? (other than not following the manga)

Well, I started watching the anime with being a giant fan of the manga. The reason I hated it so much was because they completely changed around characters that in my opinion were great characters. In the anime version they just all annoyed me. That's about it.

Oh yeah... and that unicorn. HATED the unicorn.

I've seen them both and reviewed them both. Paranoia Agent is a mixed bag. If you've already seen Boogiepop Phantom and Furi Kuri before this, there's absolutely no reason why you should be thoroughly impressed by what Paranoia Agent has to offer. It's even worse if you seen other works by the director. D.N. Angel is merely decent. Paranoia Agent is the better of the two, but after all is said and done, it really depends on whether or not you like their genres. Neither are "bad" in a sense, but they're certainly no great works of art either. To better help you out, here are a few excerpts from my reviews:

Paranoia Agent
"It’s to this anime’s credit (and to its disadvantage) that it reminded me of both Boogiepop Phantom and Furi Kuri, both brilliant in their own ways. Like Boogiepop, Paranoia Agent used episodic characters to unfold its story. Each of Shounen Bat’s victims has their own individual quirks. Like Boogiepop, some of these characters are memorable: the arrogant and paranoid “Icchi” of the second episode and the little girl obsessed with the mysteries of death in the eighth. But then there are some that are easily forgotten, such as the woman in the third episode. Obviously she’s just thrown in there for…shall I say, fan-service? It’s not a Satoshi Kon work without gratuitous raunch. Even the ‘main character’ (loosely termed) is easily forgotten. None of the characters are particularly interesting, and fortunately, they’re not supposed to be. It’s what happens to them that will catch your eye. In any case, the ‘best’ (also loosely termed) character in the anime are the two detectives; they reminded me of the two cameramen in Millennium Actress. I found those two to be quite amusing, especially the whole interrogation scene." It's also similar to Furi Kuri in that there's nothing "complex" about the story (Paranoia Agent is very simple), but most will mistakenly believe it so because it's "weird."

D.N. Angel
"I found this series to be very much like Matantei-Loki Ragnarok. It wasn’t the actual story itself (though there are similarities) but rather the execution of the story. Both are cutesy fluffy series with errr… “serious and dark” undertones. Both are annoyingly episodic and have too many filers. Both have potential, but succeed in being only average. Both pull of a joker’s wild in their last few episodes. If you enjoy anime like Ragnarok, then I recommend this because I see no reason why you wouldn’t like this, as well. If you’re like me (meaning whether or not you like a series like this depends on your mood), however, then either proceed with caution, or avoid altogether. In any case, though, this is only something to watch once and forget about." If you like bishounen and cutesy shoujo without a solid story, DN Angel's for you. Oh, and like someone else has mentioned, the characters are quite annoying. Dark is your stereotypical arrogant hero. But fan-girls will like him because he's easy on the eyes. Risa is the most annoying character in the series. You'll know why when you see it.
