Well this is good news, if you know how to read Japanese.

Some of these manga are still not officially translated

Would you have to leave your e-mail in order to get a beta key or something?

Anyways, I'm wondering if the uploads of the digital manga are going to use the official R1 translations or be done by an independent group instead?

I think the beta is only for the manga companies.

Interesting. Maybe I'll use this opportunity to read some manga, which is something I've done only once or twice. Any idea on the costs?

It goes by a point system to purchase manga:
Current Balance: 0 Points
$5.00 (500 Points)
$10.00 (1000 Points)
$25.00 (2500 Points)
Currently the average price for a chapter is 899 Points or so...

that's very expensive for a chapter. it should be 899 points per vol.
Maybe they just messed it up.

Now the hard part for them is to take down those illegal manga website like mangafox, mangastream

Looks like they're following DMP's emanga.com for how the pricing/sales works- a pretty good format to follow. Guess this isn't really CR's service since it's the Japanese Digital Comics Associtation running it..... they were also behind the PR about taking down pirate sites, so they are involved with assorted domestic licensors already.

I'm guessing the prices may not be finalized- also curious how VIZ's titles involved in this will be priced given they already have an extensive number of titles in their Ipad library [also, see some Yen/Tpop titles listed- wonder if they're involved, or if it's a Square Enix styled site where japanese publishers repurpose print editions? Curious about their exact involvement]

Really nice to see assorted CMX titles listed- I'm guessing it could be that DC's using their rights to the material while they have it, or that the japanese companies own the digital rights, and own CMX's translation and can just repurpose it for the site [that might explain why High School Girls is listed, which was completed in english but both it's publishers have closed].

Well kinda my mistake and theirs, they say it's a chapter but it lists it usually from like 40-68 pages from what I have seen. So what should really be called a volume they call a chapter.

Wow, looks like it's really starting to take off now! I've never heard of some of these series (Pet on Duty? Cigarette Kisses?), this might introduce manga fans outside Japan to series they may otherwise have never seen.

Looks like the convenient, legitimate, legal online alternatives to pirated stuff are slowly coming... Sure leaves a lot less leg room for lameduck excuses! Cool
