Will this mean that the Sneaker Awards also be discontinued?

The Sneaker has always been kind of quirky. I think a subscription based online magazine is exactly the sort of medium for this material now that the technology has grown. I certainly know I'd love this sort of publication on my Kindle or (currently vaporware) iPad/Xoom.

Definitely poor sales! Heck, they even gave us the numbers in the article. It only had a 20,000 copy circulation.

When you compare that to NewType and Megami or ASCII, then hell yeah that's tiny.
I've never seen a Sneaker magazine, but when they say "monthly light novel publications, do they mean 1 chapter a month? If so, I think that's the major problem. People would be more willing to buy the book and simply reader the story all in one go rather than read blocks of text in the magazine unlike manga, which have visuals and thus more memorable to many after a single read

At least some of their material consisted of short stories, presumably complete in a single issue. To wit, the stories that made up The Boredom of Haruhi Suzumiya. My Japanese web-site searching skills aren't up to determining the exact mix.

Did that preview of the tenth novel get published yet? If it didn't and this is happening before it will...I'm gonna laugh very sadistically.
As a big fan of the light novels, I've gotten so used to things like this. It's just hilarious to have bait in front of you and then see it get yanked away.

Sneaker isn't the only monthly/bi-monthly magazine for light novels. The Beans (my personal favorite) also does that. Usually they just have short stories that may or may not get published in book format. If the writer writes up enough short stories to make a full book, then sometimes they release a short story gaiden. Kyou kara Maou is notorious for doing that.
It's a shame that Sneaker's going under like this. They've brought us some really great books....
