Good find, Justin. This I got to see. There is a 2 part OVA out there.

That face is just hilarious now a days.

Hahahaha, I remember reading the manga, it is hilarious. But sad to hear that it was a short OAV. I would like to show this in my Animation Film Club, because I am also showing OAVs and OVAs.

Man, it has been such a long time since I last read a Buried Treasure column. I thought Justin said he was done writting this, but I am glad that a new article was written.

I have actually read the manga and while it's not bad, I found this manga similar to other delinquent manga's where the main character has a scary face, but is actually a nice guy or is nice deep down.

I found this series to be similar to Ocha Nigosu (A Bad Boy Drinks Tea) and the manga of Angel didn't really capture my interest like Ocha.

Got to say though out of all series I mentioned, I never knew a OVA existed. I am not surprised at all that neither series have been licensed and the Angle OVA is likely to not be licensed any time soon, given how times have changed since 1996.

I haven't got around to reading the manga yet, so don't know if they can keep the concept interesting long-term, but the OVA is hilarious. Definitely worth watching.

From some quick Google work, it seems like Ocha Nigosu was inspired by concepts from the much older Angel Densetsu, so that might explain why the two seem similar. (Not that it's a rip-off or anything -- sounds like it's also quite a different story).

he was born with the most awful curse one could imagine: a face that (probably) not even his mother could love.

Actually, in the manga, we find out that his parents have the same terrifying visages and lack of awareness of their effect on other people.

Yeah, I do wish this manga was license here in the U.S. It is one of my favorites. I wonder where I could go to recommend this manga to an English publisher. Crying or Very sad

Thanks for interesting issue of BT, Justin.

By the way, you mentioned Digimon, and I always want to ask someone knowledgeable about such kind of animé, if and why these are so bad according to the ANN ratings: animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1060531.

I really liked the OVA, I think it was the perfect length for the humor of the series. The manga ran a bit too long and had some weak spots, though the same thing kind of happened with DMC.

I don't think I had watched the english fansubbed version, but it is still kicking on the internet, though only in down-loadable form from the looks of it.

Legend of the Angel sounds like it would be very entertaining. It is a shame it isn't even available on DVD in Japan.

I'm sorry for a raising a minor nitpick with a well-written article, but an incorrect word is used when discussing the thugs who want to challenge the main character.

The phrase should be: "test their mettle" not "test their meddle".

A mistake spellcheck would not catch.

Just because YOU know it doesn't mean it's exactly ubiquitous. And in Japan it's a relic.
