Has anyone tried removing that "premium art cards" sticker from the slip case on his Summer Wars BD? It seems a shame to leave that thing slapped on top of the embossed artwork, but I hate to risk defacing the cover.

Also, is that subtitle style typical of FUNi blu-rays? It seems like it would have been easier to read if it had been a bit heaver, or at least had a thicker boarder.

I, too, was scared to remove the sticker from the slipcover, but I had to. I took my time, peeled from different corners, and didn't have a problem. I actually think I might have been overly careful, because I never once felt like it was sticking, but it's better to be safe than sorry. The cover not being flat probably helped as well.

From what I understand, they're usually white and that's A LOT harder to read. I watched the dub, but the signs used yellow subs, and I can definitely see how that'd be difficult to read. Thick, black borders would certainly be better, I think.

I like to leave stickers like that on. Same with Japanese stickers. More proof that I got first press Smile

I take it you didn't see it subtitled in the theaters? The white font was so hard to read I almost walked out. Gave me the biggest [expletive] headache ever.

FUNimation's subs are yellow on this release. You can see a screen shot of them here: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film3/blu-ray_reviews53/summer_wars_blu-ray.htm

Phew! The sticker came off without a hitch. Pretty strong adhesive, though.

@luffypirate85: meh, if I feel that I need to prove that it's a first run, I can just flash those pretty -- but completely useless -- art cards. Smile

I didn't bother hitting my local showing since I knew I would be getting my copy fairly soon afterward. I definitely sympathize about the subs, though. Some of these OZ shots would have been blinding on the big screen.

@braves: Calling these subs "yellow" is debatable. Smile I would argue that FUNi went the "yellowish" route on this one. I found them to be moderately better than pure white in the OZ shots, but against some of the brighter, real world backgrounds, they actually seemed less legible than white might have been.

Either way, I think the film's subtitles would have been better served with thicker border and font. Ponyo had similar issues, IMO. Actually, S23's Xam'd subs were some of the best I've seen for anime BD. Bolded fonts, primary yellow. I never had problems reading those. I think FUNi would do well to look at those releases. White or yellow, though, the key is contrast. A heavy border makes all the difference.

Odd. My copy had no such sticker or art cards. I wonder if it has anything to do with ordering it from Amazon.

As you can see from this thread, it's a bit hit-or-miss with Amazon as to whether you get the slip/cards or not...I didn't Sad.

My copied came in today from Rightstuf, but it did not come with the cards or the slipcase. I thought the cards might not have been there because I pre-ordered around February 4th, so I might have been late for the cards. Is all copies supposed to have a slip-case? I am kind of disappointed that I did not get one though.

If you didn't get your slipcover or cards, email them at [email protected] and explain to them the nature of your problem. You should probably show them some kind of proof of purchase as well to make it go quicker.

Wait, wait, wait--so everybody else is finally getting it? I got my copy(of the DVD) about a week ago, and even though I've been crazy about this movie since then, since practically nobody else had recieved their copy yet, I didn't have much of anybody to talk about it with. But that's changed, since all of you have finally gotten your copies.

So, what'd you peepz think of it? I actually just finished watching it again(and, for the first time, the special features disc) not long ago. Still lovin' this movie to death. Smile

I got my BD yesterday, haven't watched it since I decided that I wanted to watch FLCL BD instead. I will probably watch it tomorrow or some time over the weekend.

EDIT:

Well I will probably do it either tomorrow or Friday, since MvC3 is coming to me either tomorrow or Friday so that will occupy my weekend.

I loved it. I'm glad I got to listen the dub and not read. Lots of Japanese extras, which I love.

Only thing that has me pissed is that Rideback preview in HD.

I'm seriously considering cutting my DVD preorder because of that preview. It looked so pretty.

No cards, no slipcase (via Rightstuff), I'll have to try that funimation contact that King of Harts mentioned.

...has anyone bothered with the cast interviews? Basically the only big extra feature, but I didn't bother watching them. I've always found Japanese cast interview leave me unimpress- always so polite and bland and they usually say the same things "I'm so happy to voice this character- I think I'm like this character" bow and thank the interviewer for the privilege of being interviewed.

Too bad there's no commentary.
