It's not fondue. Grandpa melts a piece of cheese and puts it on bread.

Come on, you should now this, it's a classic anime moment! Sad

While the melted cheese seen in the anime was not fondue, Snow Brand (Yukijirushi) has been selling an official Alps no Shōjo Heidi cheese fondue in Japan since 2002. That's why "fondue" is in parentheses.

If these were real, hospitals (and maybe pharmacies) would go out of business.

I somehow watched Kiki's Delivery Service without noticing the dish she was delivering is herring and pumpkin. I'm kind of baffled that that was the most popular.

Looks like they haven't seen many culinaire anime.

Senzu bean isn't even food. It's medicine.

Damn sure if the pharmacies get their hands on the formula first, it'll most certainly not cure Aids.

I could be mistaken, but I'm fairly certain Melon Pan is a rather common bread type/snack in Japan. I know the Japanese bakery here in Boston for one has been making it well before the Shana anime.

What? No okonomiyaki from Ranma 1/2? I know I've always wanted to try that. Or maybe I just wanted Ukyo. Or maybe I wanted both...at the same time...

I actually had melon bread at a recent Comic Con. Although it did taste like melon, it really wasn't as special or tasty as I thought it would be.

Although it wasn't bad, I much rather eat melon instead.

Out of all the items on that list, the only one that really interests me and I think is cool is the Sensu Beans. It not only fills you up for a extended period of time, it also can heal even severe wounds.

The King of Harts: Isn't okonomiyaki similar to a pizza and or a pancake? I remember years and years ago, in the anime, okonomiyaki was called Japanese pizza in the Ranma 1/2 English dub.

Now okonomiyaki? Come on people, this isn't for weird food you've never tried, it's weird food Japanese audiences want to try. They can easily have okonomiyaki at home or at a local resturuant whenever they want it. It's just regular Japanese food.

Okonomiyaki is also very very good and easy to make in your own home as long as you can get ahold of the ingredients. It's a pancake/pizza if you count flour, yam, and cabbage batter as something like that. It's similar to a pizza after that in the sense you can put whatever you want on top of it or mixed in with the batter.

While we're at it because I know someone is thinking it Omurice is something middle school kids can make too.
