This is pretty big news. Not sure if it means any licensing announcements, or clarificiation of Del Rey titles, among other things, but it looks like it at least lets us know Kodansha's up and about. It will be held alongside a range of events going on at Kinokuniya's New York location [New York is a big comics city, so it's an appopriate spot to do so, versus the usual con events]. Any of you nearby might want to check it out and fill all of us in on exactly what Kodansha has to share EDIT--- FYI--- Anyone who wants to comment on the official ANN Talkback thread about all the hullabaloo announced in this thread, check it out here- animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-12-12/kodansha-adds-phoenix-wright-monster-hunter-deltora-quest Last edited by Paploo on Sun Dec 12, 2010 5:33 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Given it hasn't started yet- (It's almost 2:00 though) I doubt anyone knows anything. Hopefully we'll know more in the coming hours o-o |

http://twitter.com/animealmanac Scott VonSchilling is apparently at the party, and tweeting live...
Tidbits so far from Scott's coverage [with some encyclopedia links added by me]--- - Sailor Moon is "not a title we can discuss today." -Air Gear, Arisa, Fairy Tail, I Am Here, Negima, Negima Neo, Ninja Girls, Zetsubo-sensei, Shojo Chara, Wallflower return this summer. - the Rave Master omnibus will also come out. -New manga, Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex debut in May. -Phoenix Wright manga debuts in June, volume 2 in august. Real manga, not anthology. -Negima omnibus will be out in June, new translation. -Deltora Quest in July -Until the Full Moon rescue license from Broccoli Books manga#4281 -GON returns to the US market. -Kodansha looking to make an anime of GON. -Bloody Monday debuts in Aug. manga#10601 [from creator of GetBackers] -Animal Land, from the creator of Zach Bell. animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-10-09/1st-bessatsu-shonen-mag-issue-manga-posted-for-free aka Dōbutsu no Kuni -Tsubasa and xxxHolic will continue under the Del Rey brand, not Kodansha USA. -No comments on Kodansha USA going digital as of yet. -Pricing is still going to be the standard $10.99 per volume. Commentary- The way they approached Sailor Moon news sounds hopeful. Del Rey previousy released the Phoenix Wright dojin-styled anthology series, so that's a nice followup. Deltora Quest's anime is airing on The Hub, asides from the successful novels, so that makes sense to release here Gon was previously released by DC Comics, then rereleased last year under their CMX label. I think the GITS SAC manga was announced awhile as part of an initiative of original comics Kodansha would be making for the international market animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-11-07/ghost-in-the-shell/sac-to-launch-2-new-manga-in-japan The CLAMP titles continuing under Del Rey is an interesting development. Must be a wierd license clause or CLAMP's personal preference. Nice for those collecting xxxHolic though, and since Tsubasa is over, I guess it means DR will keep reprinting it. The pricing makes it sound like we should expect the same sort of presentation as Del Rey. And seeing such a wide range of ongoing titles continue gives hope that we might see even more by the fall (I'm guessing it depends on sales or on licensing contract specifics- Kodansha might have to go back to the artists before moving forward on some titles). Arisa and I Am Here just launched, so it's good to see those continuing. EDIT--- UPDATED--- "Any titles from Del Rey not announced today are not necessarily canceled, but they haven't been scheduled yet for release this summer." So it looks like we'll just have to wait till the fall for some titles. Nice to know lots of books will continue. And thanks to Lissa's tweets- http://kodanshacomics.com/ has now updated with the info announced at the event, including a few more tidbits- -Monster Hunter Orage, by Fairy Tail creator Hiro Mashima, is adapted from the Capcom game and debuts in June, with a second volume in August. [...wooooooot!] manga#10719 -Mardock Scramble is adapted by Yoshitoki Oima from Tow Ubukata’s novel. This exciting sci-fi tale has also been adapted into a stunning anime. The first volume releases in August. anime#11338 VIZ is releasin the novel series too btw -Cage of Eden by Yoshinobu Yamada is best described as Battle Royale meets Lost by way of Negima! August release. manga#11912 Kodansha also posted a schedule for continuing titles [keep in mind xxxHolic will continue as a Del Rey title which is why it isn't listed]. Man, I was so hoping Moyashimon/Moyasimon would be on that list of releases. That's one of my favorites. It came out a snail's pace already, and now it's in limbo.

Kodansha indicated titles not on the list aren't necessarily cancelled- they will likely pop up in Fall/Winter listings. Given how far ahead you have to solicit to bookstores [it's often over 6 months to a year, compared to just 2 for comic shops], and the fact that they look to have a fairly full schedule from May to August, a number of titles probably got a little delayed. It's possible Moyashimon, Nighthead Genesis, Fairy Navigtor Runa and other titles'll pop up in the fall. |

The GitS:SAC manga sounds interesting, but other than that, I'm a bit disappointed by their announcements.

Oh yeah, that's why I said it's in limbo instead of outright canceled. It's possible it could turn up later, but not definitely, so... who knows? I certainly do hope it does turn up though. I just love those bacteria. |

I'm pretty impressed about the bimonthly schedule, Arisa continuing right away (this is a gem that should not be missed), and Bloody Monday being licensed.
I'm still waiting for Sailor Moon. Tokyopop, Vertical, Dark Horse, and now Kodansha all recognized that it's been licensed. But why isn't anyone confirming who has it? |

Thank goodness for that edit because I'm following some titles not mentioned. (eg. Ghost Hunt & Code: Breaker) |

Yay! I'm glad that I Am Here! is continuing. I just picked it up last week, and really enjoyed it.
