Parasite Dolls is quite a proper addition to the Bubblegum Crisis/AD Police universe. It is an underrated OAV to be sure, and often hated for the stupidest reasons. It's a stand-alone "in-verse", and some people just can't wrap their heads around that.

Yeah, I haven't yet gotten around to seeing the other stuff from the Bubblegum 2040 universe but Parasite Dolls work's just fine as an excellent, stylish and atmospheric (if also a bit incomprehensible) stand alone piece.

Agreed, although I don't see it as incomprehensible, rather than tragic. It's a build up in three features, and it works in the end. The only thing that needs tuning is the "continuation of concept" between Eps. Seriously, like all it would take is five more minutes. Still a moving ending, IMO

Parasite Dolls has its fans, apparently, but I have to confess this was the first Anime I've watched that I've ever hated, and immediately sold back to the video store. In the end it was all just pointless bleakness that left me feeling empty. I can't elaborate much further because I've pretty much blocked it from my memory--I prefer only to remember Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040.

Did I catch a bit of extreme localization, with Buddhism being translated into Christianity? I thought I heard one of the characters starting to recite Namu Amida Butsu, but with the subtitles reading Our Father who art in Heaven. But you'd hardly know it was set in Japan, except for the map of Tokyo Bay that appears (and people's names).

I actually really like Parasite Dolls and own it. It's been one of my repeat rotation viewings in fact. Give it a shot. Some great art work, and some nice twists as well.
