But that was a decision of the publisher, tough. As I said above, the senate tried to make a law banning virtual child porn, but the Supreme Court shot it down using the First Amendment/Freedom of Speech. Freedom Of Speech even applies to realistic CGI renderings that are (for the naked eye, an expert can easily find out it's fake) indiscernible from real life child porn. I don't live in America, but: GOD BLESS THE FIRST AMENDMENT! |

I'm worried that this law passing might cause more mangaka to put series on hiatus indefinitely. 2 have already canned their series and I would be very upset if someone like Akamatsu (who was opposed to the bill the first time they tried to pass it) quit working on a series.
Hopefully something happens to counter the JDP support and this doesn't pass and stays in the trash forever. There is no reason to get uptight over works of fiction. |

Very unlikely if he's got brains. If people cancel there series over this they are baka =D Not that I don't agree with you about "no reason to get uptight" |

I think you misunderstood me. I know this bill isn't about hentai because it's already restricted. But based on what I read and others have said (including Dan), it could apply to most fanservice because the wording is too vague and it will be up to the government to decide what's harmful. Not only that, many of the anime studios (most of whom don't make hentai) are worried, as well. Almost everyone in the anime/manga industry is worried about this bill and since I would assume they know better than us what's at stake, then I think it's reasonable for us to be concerned as well. |

is that to say the decision was effectively a consequence of a Freedom of Speech appeal rather than (and thus in contrast to) a rationale determined on the basis of the social and ethical considerations of the issues concerned ? |

BL titles would be the first group to get affected by the bill and the easiest to target due to subject matter. High school student dating his teacher (just an example) ... no surprises there. |

It just passed through the general affairs committee, all that's left is approval on wednesday by the whole assembly.

Upon review, I see you were probably talking about the manga, not the anime. Sorry. That Supreme Court ruling did not prevent one from being prosecuted by other means, of course: animenewsnetwork.com/editorial/2010-03-02/7 I think this points out the major problem with the Tokyo law: It has the same type of "I'll know it when I see it" subjectivity as U.S. obscenity statutes. |
