More specifically, they'll look at his progress (on the scripts) in half a year to figure out whether to continue. One of the tweets (from a person I assume was in attendance at the lecture) said that Maeda has started working on the past histories of everyone and that there will be a route where spoiler[Iwasawa doesn't disappear].

I hope this happens. It'd be the perfect chance to delve into the backgrounds of characters they didn't have time to cover in the anime...

FINALLY we get to know their pasts!!! And wow... a route where spoiler[Iwasawa doesn't disappear]? Will spoiler[Yui] even be in it? o_O Hmm...but what does he mean by "game"? A visual novel? RPG? No, no, I've got it: something for the Wii! And you could use the Wiimote as a gun or something... xD If it is a visual novel, I'll be okay with it, I suppose. I started playing a fan visual novel a few months ago...huh, whaddaya know, they've already put up a post about this article~ Either way...*fangirl attack* OHMIGOSH SRSLY?! I'M SOOO EXCITED!!!!111one, etc., etc. Angel Beats! FTW. EDIT: I can't believe I JUST realized this..."route" where spoiler[Iwasawa doesn't disappear]. (I'm getting tired of these spoiler tags...) Doesn't "route" = visual novel? Feh. Time to wait on the fansubbers. *sob* |

Of course it'd be a visual novel. I'm pretty sure that's the only type of game Key/Visual Arts has created (other than Planetarian, which is a kinetic novel, meaning a visual novel with only one route and no decisions to make).
I'm pretty sure this will be given the green light in 6 months. The Angel Beats DVDs/BDs are selling more than any other Key anime adaptation, so there's definitely a fanbase for it. Not to mention, Rewrite should be ready by then, so they'll need another game to work on... unless they want to do another Little Busters! spinoff. |

Can't say I'm too excited about a game adaptation, it'll never be released in English. Going to have to wait for someone to summarize the stories to find out what happens in them which isn't very fun.
But we're likely talking about three years from now if at all, I wonder what they'll do to keep people interested in the meantime. Emerje |

Meh, it wasn't a very good anime. It'll probably turn out to be a pretty mediocre game as well. Just being realistic.

Eh, it would be amusing to see them put out a Sasami Sasasegawa vs. Rin Natsume tongue-twister game :3 |

I don't know if a green-lit game would result in future anime adaptations, but I suppose it's a possibility. I'm not in favor or against future anime adaptations, to be fair. Sure, would be fun to learn more of side characters like TK or Christ, but I don't think a sequel would be favorable.
Right now all I want is the epilogue (which we already got). In other words, Angel Beats! did suffice in most aspects even though it was quite short. All in all, I'd rather see Key working on a new epic tale such as Angel Beats!.
To keep people interested for 3 years would pretty much exhaust the fanbase's interest. Best left alone. No one over here kept us interested in Berserk during the last decade, but we're still hanging in there, right?
How fun is it to be realistic while ignoring the fact that it's one of the best selling anime series in Japan of all time, mr expert? |

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME
I wonder if there's going to be minigames like in Little Busters (that baseball game was addictive >.>) Maybe like a guitar hero type of minigame for the songs? Or some sort of shooter game? Oh, if it were only possible to take the rifle from Yuri at the beginning of the story, boom headshot Kanade, and crouch over her in a celebratory fashion... Whatever it is, I'm excited. I mean, it can't turn out as bad as Kudwafter. Right? RIGHT?! Also, Yui arc ftw! Need Yui arc. And need Irie/Sekine arc. They're a two-fer. ... I hope this game is 18+! Need Irie/Sekine H scenes. And Yui. Kthankyougoodsir. Edit: Nah, don't need Yui H-scene. Just Yui head petting minigame. Still need Irie/Sekine H-scene. Japanese game companies don't have much money. So they make something that won't cost a lot of money but sell enough to niche targets.

And so Jun Maeda is doing VN writing again. Let's hope he'll continue doing VN writing even after the Angel Beats game.
What do you mean, "another" spin-off? All they've released from LB so far is the original version, an expanded version, a PSP port, and a fandisc, the only actual spin-off. Clannad also had a fandisc (Tomoyo After ~It's a Wonderful Life~), so it's nothing that special. Rewrite will probably get a fandisc as well.
Jun Maeda led the planning for Clannad and wrote well over half of it. The game became a major success, getting tons of sales, lots of spin-offs (manga and anime, for example), and high ratings (with a 9.11 average on vndb, it keeps switching between first and second highest rated VN in the database with Ever17, and it has the very high average of 90/87 on erogamescape). Jun Maeda is a great writer, so I very much doubt this will be mediocre. |

Meanwhile, I await news of an animated adaptation of Planeterian. Key's current venture is something to which I have paid little attention.

I don't think you know what a "fandisc" is. A "fandisc" is simply a side story that is released alongside the main game. Or sometimes they're extras passed out at Comiket or if you purchase the game at a certain store. Kud Wafter, however, was sold as it is, with a small demo of Rewrite. It was not packaged with Little Busters! (EX or the original) (and I don't think Tomoyo After was packaged with Clannad either). And yeah, Little Busters got the whole "EX" thing, something Clannad never did... so it has the most...ermm... releases? But Kud Wafter is a spinoff, not a fandisc.
You and me both! Planetarian would make such an awesome OVA. |

I think you're confusing ファンディスク with 特典 http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/ファンディスク

I'd like to power-up your statement - because speaking of ratings, how about mentioning that CLANNAD After Story is nothing less than the BEST RATED Anime here on AnimeNewsNetwork. So... *switches to Kayne West voice* I'm a let you finish, but Jun Maeda wrote one of the BEST ANIME of all time! OF ALL TIME! ...my gosh, sorry Still, on the other hand - while I enjoyed Angel Beats! it did have it's major flaws, especially some plot holes and missing characterisation of about half the cast. Seeing that the game is now in the making, it seems like this was purposely planned to give the game more "surprise-appeal" - now you can dive into the individual stories and pasts of the characters and there's lots of new contents. So potentially the game could be "better" than the anime, in terms of how complete it is. Strategically speaking I could imagine that eventually the game continues even beyond the anime story, thus leaving room for a second season of the anime much in the style of CLANNAD / Clannad After Story. This may sound strange considering the end of Angel Beats! - but if it's Jun Maeda, I can imagine him pulling of ways to continue the story in an engaging way. |
