So I'm looking down the homepage earlier today and see that both the thumbnail and description blurb for the most recent One Piece episode review blatantly spoil this big cliffhanger moment from the end of the previous episode. I'd think it goes without saying that those sorts of details should be kept off the main page, where people who may not have seen the episode yet can stumble across them without even going out of their way. I posted the same thing in the episode reviews, but this seemed a more appropriate place for it.

Hi there, I apologize if the recent One Piece episode picture/description spoiled the episode for you. I do try to avoid outright spoilers on the front page whenever possible. Sometimes it's difficult to catch when the editors (myself/Choo Sum) aren't watching the series and have to go by gut on what 'feels' like a big reveal or not.
For context, Kanjuro, the character depicted in the thumbnail and mentioned in the description, spoiler[was a traitor who was apparently killed by some of the protagonists in an episode a few months ago. At the end of last week's episode, Oden, a crucial character to the current arc whom we saw die in a flashback, apparently showed up alive and well.] Anyone watching the series who isn't a complete neophyte realized right away that something was up, but the reveal of exactly what was saved for this week's episode, and the front-page description spoils the big reveal. In any case, I appreciate the apology; it's hard enough to follow all the balls One Piece has in the air at any given time even if you are currently watching it.

Some marked quality-of-life updates take away a portion of the grind.― At the Tokyo Game Show 2024, I was able to spend some time playing the demo of the upcoming Atlus RPG, Metaphor: ReFantazio. This title comes from the minds behind the Persona series, including Katsura Hashino, the director, producer, and occasional writer of various games in the series. As such, the game looks and feels like a f...
From a magical girl genre perspective, Go! Princess Pretty Cure has some fascinating elements.― While all Pretty Cure series are tailored towards an audience of little girls, Go! Princess Pretty Cure is the one (of those legally available in English) that leans into that the most. With its themes of princesses and dreams and its double-layered transformations, it leans hard into ideas about what lit...
With only hazy memories from a satellite TV airing in the '90s, Lynzee takes her first full foray into Macross.― While in New York last month, I had the opportunity to attend the Macross Plus movie screening with special guest Shōji Kawamori. I had not seen the film in its entirety before, although I'm somewhat sure I'd seen the climax on some satellite channel when I was about 12. I'm fairly confi...

There, I and 20 other players were thrown headlong into a boss battle against a giant dragon. It was a chaotic mess… but a fun ch...
Jean-Karlo gets in deep in the Pal World lawsuit and gaming's history with patents.― Welcome back, folks! I was surprised by the reception to last week's column; we had more than a few folks who responded positively to the Freedom Wars news. That makes me happy! I can't cover a lot of these obscure games getting revivals, but I live for seeing folks excited to see their obscure favorites getting bro...
With its horned protagonist, disturbingly realistic deer, and off-the-wall absurdist humor, My Deer Friend Nokotan has been one of the most popular shows—inside of Japan and out.― With its horned protagonist, disturbingly realistic deer, and off-the-wall absurdist humor, My Deer Friend Nokotan has been one of the most popular shows of the Summer 2024 anime season—both inside of Japan and out. As I said in the last review, we have been to the mountaintop of the series and are now be...
Like Sekiro? Then you’ll probably enjoy upcoming Soulslike The First Berserker: Khazan—because just like in Sekiro, parrying is the key to victory.― At Tokyo Game Show 2024, I was able to get 45-minutes with upcoming Soulslike The First Berserker: Khazan. Going in, even as a veteran player—or at least a person who has beaten almost all the core Soulsborne games and more than a few third-party Soulsl...
Sister and Giant has moments of being better than it ought to be, but on the whole, it is a bit schlocky.― You all know the story: a Japanese schoolgirl is killed by some form of transportation and ends up getting to live out the rest of her life in a fantasy world, often with magical RPG-inspired power. Along the way, she finds love and friendship, and even though she's dead in one world, it's in t...

We sat down with the Uzumaki anime director to see what hints he could give us about the horror series before it premieres this weekend.― On the screen in front of a crowded Otakon panel room, Director Hiroshi Nagahama shows a slide featuring the cover art for the 1987 film Wicked City, directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri of Studio Madhouse on the screen in front of a crowded Otakon panel room. Several a...
Livia is hypercompetent without feeling overdone, and that's a major strength of this trilogy.― Unlike its Japanese light novel counterparts, Korean web/light novels tend to favor what they call "transmigration" rather than full-out reincarnation. This does sometimes involve the death of the heroine/villainess (book dependent), but more often, my reading experience has shown that characters aren't a...
