Strong movie with good themes and dilemmas. Truly earns its classic status but was a bit slow for me in certain moments. At some point I said "I get it, move on with the story." This is worth a proper rewatch as it's been far too long and apparently the new English dubs are a massive improvement. |

Ever gone into a series really wishing it actually delivered on its promising start? Went into this expecting a 9, came out maybe a 7. Aside from a few episodes that had a lot of impact (Chise's origin story is particularly notable) and a few really beautiful scenes here and there, the latter half managed to get itself bogged down repeating the same issues that annoyed me early on, namely the cliffhangers at the end of episodes that had drama free resolution within an episode or two. When this sort of pattern gets repeated throughout the entire series, well then the only qualities to enjoy are the ones I already mentioned. The visuals and some story beats were its strong points, but its repetition and lack of gravitas were disappointments. |

Tough to rate as a whole. Given that all the snippets were just one minute in length, there's almost no Time for anything to develop, other than just a brief glimpse at a very short story. So I'll keep my review brief too. It's fun, not a long investment, and a good half of them were funny. |

The show did not have great ambition and the characters were fairly one dimensional, yet it still managed to be one of the shows I looked forward to seeing every week as soon as it was available. |

The first episode was something of a mess. The show would be far better served had the first episode been devoted mostly to background and some exposition, rather than jumping right in. And after the second episode I'm still having difficulty differentiating all the characters and back stories, but something compels me to continue wanting to watch this series. Not that I'm into cross dressing or homosexuality (I'll stick to wearing pants and wooing womenfolk, thank you very much) but I am sympathetic to the difficulties of others, especially in those important formative years. |
