Anime Shorts by Mirai Mizue, Shunsaku Hayashi Compete at Annecy 2019

The 2019 Annecy International Animated Film Festival and Market revealed its short films selection on Thursday. Mirai Mizue's "The Dawn of Ape" four-minute anime short (pictured at right) will compete in the event's "Short Films" category. Additionally, Shunsaku Hayashi's "Leaking Life" 14-minute animated short will compete in the "Off-Limits Short Films" category.
No Japanese works will compete in the "Perspectives Short Films" and "Young Audiences Short Films" categories. The event hasn't yet revealed the full-length films that will screen inside and outside of competition, as well as other categories such as TV Films, Commissioned Films, and Graduation Short Films.
This year's event will also feature Japanese animation as a spotlight. Director Yôichi Kotabe will attend the event as a guest of honor, and Yoshiaki Nishimura (founder of Studio Ponoc) and animator Koji Yamamura will serve as jury members. The event will screen the French premiere of Modest Heroes, and will also host a 30th aniversary screening of Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's Venus Wars film.
Established in 1960, Annecy is the world's oldest and largest animation film festival. This year, it will run from June 10-15 at the French community of the same name.
Last year, Erick Oh and Tonko House's PIG: The Dam Keeper Poems "Yellow Flower", "Hello Nice to Meet You" United States and Japan collaboration won the "Cristal for a TV Production" award in the TV Films category
