Ryuichi Sakamoto to Perform Unreleased New Song at December 12 Online Piano Concert
Legendary musician Ryuichi Sakamoto will hold his final piano concert of the year on December 12. Titled Ryuichi Sakamoto: Playing the Piano 12122020, the concert will be broadcast exclusively online by MUSIC/SLASH. Now, even more overseas fans will be able to watch the livestream, as Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia and Hong Kong are added to the list of supported countries and regions.
In addition, Sakamoto has confirmed that along with a set of his greatest hits, he will also unveil a new song for the very first time, which was written for an artisanal box set that is due to be released in 2021.
Tickets for the December 12 concert are available until December 7 at 23:59 JST. Book now to avoid disappointment. The livestream will not be archived – just like a physical concert, the only way to see it will be live!
Sakamoto was quick to embrace online performances in the wake of the global COVID-19 pandemic, with his first livestream taking place on April 2, even before people in Japan began staying home as the first state of emergency was declared.
Sakamoto will mark the end of this remarkable year by broadcasting an unusual live piano concert from a studio in Tokyo to the world – his first piano concert in Japan since 2013. The show will be broadcast exclusively by MUSIC/SLASH, which offers the highest audio fidelity ever available. The platform was chosen by Tatsuro Yamashita for the first livestream concert of his 45-year career because of its superior sound quality.
Sakamoto commented: “It has finally become possible to livestream with audio quality that would have been unimaginable until recently. This will be my first solo concert using this new technology. I am excited to share this delicately detailed and nuanced sound with all of you.”
The concert will be directed by Rhizomatiks, the groundbreaking multimedia design group led by Daito Manabe, whose work in entertainment and art pushes the boundaries between analog and digital, real and virtual. Cinematography by New York-based artist duo Zakkubalan will help to bring the world created by Sakamoto and Rhizomatiks to life in stunning visual style.
