Kickstarter Project For Visual Novel Developer Frontwing's Grisaia: Phantom Trigger Reaches Funding Goal
Tokyo, Japan – March 14, 2017 Tokyo-based visual novel developer Frontwing's crowdfunding campaign for the upcoming title “Grisaia: Phantom Trigger” has reached its initial $80,000 goal. The goal was passed on March 10, less than 72 hours into the campaign, and the total funds raised are currently over $90,000. The campaign has multiple planned stretch goals, the first of which is the production of a physical “Phantom Trigger” manga adaptation included free for all backers if the campaign raises over $110,000. “Grisaia: Phantom Trigger” is a dramatic visual novel series, with the first two installments to be released worldwide for the PC on April 28, 2017. The official website for the series can be found here: http://www.grisaia-pt.com
The aim of the Kickstarter campaign is to enable Frontwing to give the overseas launch of the “Grisaia: Phantom Trigger” series the same fanfare as is planned for the release within Japan. In addition to allowing for the production of English-language versions of the physical game release and manga adaptation, the campaign also makes a wide variety of goods available to overseas fans, including some Kickstarter-exclusive items. The high-level rewards also feature unique items such as official cosplay uniforms, and custom original drawings by character artist Akio Watanabe, also famous for the Monogatari series, among other works. The Grisaia series is Frontwing's most popular franchise, with sales of the games in the first trilogy topping 300,000 units worldwide. The series has also had a very successful anime adaptation, produced by NBC Universal and directed by Tensho, as well as serialized manga adaptation.
“Grisaia: Phantom Trigger” takes place after the existing Grisaia trilogy, and features a completely new group of heroines as well as a new protagonist. The story follows a class of students at Mihama Academy, which has been converted by anti-terror organization CIRS into a ‘specialist training school’ for a new generation of operatives.
Both illustrator/character designer Akio Watanabe (well-known animation director of the the Monogatari series) and writer Ryuta Fujisaki return from the original Grisaia trilogy to work on “Phantom Trigger”, and the game features SD character artwork by nanaca mai. The opening theme, “Ends of the Earth”, is composed by Hitoshi Fujima and sung by Marina Kawano, with lyrics by Yoshikazu Kuwashima.
“Grisaia: Phantom Trigger” is planned to be released in a serialized format, with the first two entries releasing simultaneously worldwide on April 28, 2017. A third entry will follow in the Summer, and subsequent titles in the series are also planned. Currently the game is confirmed for sale on the Steam platform, and other information will be announced as it is confirmed.
The “Phantom Trigger” series is being localized in English by Frontwing's experienced in-house translation team, the members of which are proficient Japanese to English translators who possess JLPT N1 certification or equivalent. It also features a brand-new system allowing simultaneous display of English and Japanese text during gameplay, as well as language switching at the press of a button.
