Yonosuke lived in an insatiable pursuit of love affairs with women and a celebrated courtesan. He first made love to a woman during his childhood. Thereafter, always devoting himself to the affairs, Yonosuke ended up, at 60, sailing to Nyogogashima ("Isle of Women"). This film was adapted from the famous novel, Kōshoku Ichidai Otoko which narrates 54 years of his adventures in affairs of women.

THE QUIET DUEL
(Directed by Akira Kurosawa) During a life-saving operation, army surgeon Fujisaki (legendary actor Toshirō Mifune) contaminates himself with syphilis, a disease virtually incurable in 1940's Japan. After the war, he returns to work at the hospital maintained by his obstetrician father (Takashi Shimura) but agonizes over the disease that threatens to destroy his impending marriage, while simultaneously trying to save other patients' lives - including the man from whom he contracted the disease.
