GDH K.K. (Head Office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Shinichirō Ishikawa, Securities Code: TSE Mothers 3755, hereinafter GDH) has announced that it will start simulcast of The Tower of Druaga: The Aegis of Uruk- on terrestrial TV and Internet in Japan from April 2008.
The Tower of Druaga: The Aegis of Uruk- is a new animated series produced by its main production subsidiary GONZO K.K. (Head Office: Nerima-ku, Tokyo, Managing Director: Junji Fujita, hereinafter GONZO), based on the action RPG The Tower of Druaga. Created and launched by NAMCO Ltd. (Namco Bandai Games Inc. today) in 1984, the arcade game was a phenomenal hit among the game fans of that time. GDH group has taken up this legendary title to develop a cross-media project in which GONZO and GONZO Rosso K.K. (Head Office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, Managing Director: Hideki Moriya) recreated it as an animated series and an online game.
With the advance of new media such as the Internet and digital broadcasting, the needs of viewers and their viewing styles are becoming increasingly diversified. The venture to simulcast the animation on different platforms aims to maximize the synergistic promotion as it creates viewing opportunities for wider audience and accommodates more sophisticated needs of our viewers, thus contributing to anti-piracy efforts against illegal file-sharing and downloading.
The simulcast will start from 25:15 on Friday April 4th, 2008, with terrestrial broadcast on TVK and webcast via GyaO! (http://www.GyaO!.jp/ - Japanese only). GyaO! is an Internet broadcasting service operated by USEN Corp. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Yasuhiro Uno) and provides all programs free-of-charge. GyaO! will also launch “History of GONZO” campaign featuring GONZO's six library titles, with first episode of each title available for viewing from 12:00 noon, March 10th, 2008.
GDH will continue to experiment and adopt new means of video distribution in order to meet the needs of various audiences and further vitalize the motion picture industry.
[About The Tower of Druaga: The Aegis of Uruk-]
Drawing its inspiration from the hugely popular 1980s arcade games of the same name, The Tower of Druaga is a fantasy epic that seldom takes itself too seriously! A cast of oddball characters set out on an epic quest in a finely tuned parody of videogame cliches that's guaranteed to put a grin on any gamer's face.
