ANIME EXPO® 2007 ANNOUNCES FIRST EVER OTAKU PARLIAMENTARY DEBATE

Anaheim, California (May 30, 2007) — Ever had a debate with a friend or family member about Anime, Games, or Manga? Have you ever stood in line and encountered someone that was just plain “wrong” on an Anime topic and just had to interject yourself to point his or her fallacies? Do you think you know everything that there is to know about the Anime and Manga world? Want to prove it to the world itself? Well look no further, Anime Expo® is please to announce the first annual Otaku Parliamentary Debate at this year's convention June 29-July 2 at the Long Beach Convention Center. What is Otaku Parliamentary Debate?
* Otaku Parliamentary Debate, OPD for short, is the first debate contest at
Anime Expo® that will run from Day One (June 29, 2007) to Day Three (July
1, 2007) of the con.
* Day One – First Rounds. Eight teams will be randomly chosen to participate
in the OPD, so please put your foot forward.
* Day two – Semifinal Rounds. Those who won on the previous day will compete
to go to the next round.
* Day Three - The Finals. The winners of the semifinals will face off to find
out “whose debate skills reign supreme”.
* It runs similar to Parliamentary debate, where two teams argue either in
favor or oppose on the topic. The only difference is that all the topics
will be related to Anime, Manga, and Video Games!
Those who are interested in competing please send an email application by June 16, 2007 to: [email protected]. Please provide your full names, age, team name (PG appropriate Please), and contact information (email addresses and phone numbers). In addition, please provide a brief background of yourselves along with any information of your debate skills (such as have you done Parliamentary Debate before, etc.). You will shortly be contacted with more information about the tournament.
Winners of this year tournament will receive passes to Anime Expo® 2008 to defend their title. The runners up will receive a Japanese snack basket.
