Protoculture Addicts #88
Anime News Network's Protoculture Addicts #88 Released
New format for America's oldest anime magazine
MONTREAL, PQ - May 19, 2006 - Anime News Network and Protoculture Inc. are pleased to announce the release of Protoculture Addicts #88. Protoculture Addicts #88 represents a significant step forward for the publication and several firsts. Issue 88 is the first 100 pages, full color issue, and it is also the first issue to preview pages from an upcoming domestic manga release.
“There's so much great anime and manga to write about every issue, we just couldn't keep cramming it all into 80 pages,” explains Christopher Macdonald, publisher of Protoculture Addicts. “We spent a lot of time making sure that everything was done right with this issue, and we're very happy with the results.”
Issue 88 of Protoculture Addicts also features a preview of the first 20 pagesof Del Rey's upcoming release of ES: Eternal Sabbath. “We're very happy to be previewing a sample of such a great manga,” states Macdonald, “We didn't want to go out and grab just any manga. We think ES: Eternal Sabbath features wonderful art and a great story, and we're very pleased that Del Rey allowed us the honor to present it to our readers.”
Continuing with issue #89 and beyond, the editors will seek to include samples from upcoming manga that they feel will appeal to the magazine's readers. “While we want to sample a manga in every issue, if we can't get a manga that's worthy of our readers we won't waste their time with an inferior manga, simple as that.”
Protoculture Addicts #88 also spotlights Basilisk, Blood+, Kamichu! and many other great upcoming anime. In keeping with regular Protoculture tradition, there is also a look back at Urusei Yatsura. Other features include and interview with Hitoshi Ariga, The Modern Japanese Music Database, a guide to the summer's anime conventions and much more.
Continuing with the improvements and upgrades, Protoculture Addicts issue #89, due out in November 2006, will include all the new improvements made to issue #88 as well as many new features and upgrades.
Protoculture Addicts issue 88 retails for $5.95 and is distributed by Diamond Comic Distributors, and Disticor, as well as numerous other distributors and wholesalers.
