Scotland Loves Anime Festival Cinema in Edinburgh Ceases Trading (Updated 2)
posted on by Andrew Osmond
The BBC reports that the Edinburgh Filmhouse cinema has stopped trading with immediate effect, as the charity which runs it, Centre for the Moving Image, has called in administrators.
The Edinburgh Filmhouse has been the venue for the screenings in the Edinburgh leg of the Scotland Loves Anime festival since the festival began in 2010. The Edinburgh screenings in the 2022 festival have been scheduled for October 24 to 30.
Scotland Loves Animation Tweeted the following: "We know many of you are worried about this sad news - we don't have any further information as to any impact on our Edinburgh festival leg at this time, but we are aware and will let everyone know more as soon as we have more information ourselves."
The Centre for the Moving Image charity says that it has experienced rising costs and also reduced trade caused by the Covid pandemic.
The charity also runs the Edinburgh International Film Festival and the Belmont cinema in Aberdeen, which have both ceased trading as well.
Update - Scotland Loves Anime's director and founder Andrew Partridge has Tweeted, "From a (Scotland Loves Anime) POV we'll have more for you soon but the festival will still be happening, we just need to clarify the details before we come back."
Update 2 - On Friday, Scotland Loves Anime Tweeted, "EDINBURGH UPDATE: We are looking into all options to secure a new Edinburgh venue and the possibility of honouring existing ticket sales if possible. We'll update you once we have more news next week."
