Weathering With You Variant Deluxe Edition Details
posted on by Andrew Osmond
Anime Limited has announced details of a "variant version" of the Deluxe Edition of Makoto Shinkai's film Weathering With You. Pre-orders will go on sale around 12 noon on Friday July 31 at the link above, and also at the Zavvi site. The order period will end on August 28, and the title will be released on November 2.
Anime Limited mentioned that the original Deluxe Edition of the film, released exclusively through Zavvi, sold out in just under 24 hours.
The variant Deluxe Edition will include Steelbook packaging; the film on 4K UHD Blu-ray, as well as Blu-ray; an additional Blu-ray with bonus content; a 104-page hardback book; a poster; art cards and a sticker. Unlike the previous Deluxe Edition, it will not include the film's Original Soundtrack CD by RADWIMPS.
Anime Limited made the following comment regarding the number of copies that will be made:
"Because of the unique nature of being able to produce this variant edition exclusive to ourselves and Zavvi, effectively the amount of pre-orders we get for this version collectively will determine how many units are produced... We're not putting a strict limit on how many units are available for pre-order of this particular variant... Once the deadline for pre-orders has passed [on August 28] we'll set the final quantity of units required, and the final production run size will be locked in, at which point no further units will be produced.
"Any extra units beyond those pre-ordered will be available for people to order until there is no remaining stock, so if you can't pre-order it during the initial sale period, you will still have a chance to order it."
Anime Limited added that anyone who pre-orders the product is guaranteed a copy.
GKIDS, which distributed Weathering With You in America, describes the film:
The summer of his high school freshman year, Hodaka runs away from his remote island home to Tokyo, and quickly finds himself pushed to his financial and personal limits. The weather is unusually gloomy and rainy every day, as if to suggest his future. He lives his days in isolation, but finally finds work as a writer for a mysterious occult magazine. Then one day, Hodaka meets Hina on a busy street corner. This bright and strongwilled girl possesses a strange and wonderful ability: the power to stop the rain and clear the sky...
Shinkai is credited with the original work, and also directed and wrote the film's scripts for CoMix Wave Films. Masayoshi Tanaka (your name., anohana, The Anthem of the Heart) designed the characters, Atsushi Tamura (The Cat Returns, Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin) was the animation director, and Hiroshi Takiguchi (The Garden of Words, Ajin) was the art director. Story Inc. is credited as producer, and TOHO distributed the film. RADWIMPS' Yōjirō Noda composed five vocal theme songs for the film, and the group also provided 27 background music songs for the film. Tōko Miura sang RADWIMPS' "Grand Escape (Movie edit) feat. Tōko Miura" and "Shukusai (Movie edit) feat. Tōko Miura" theme songs for the film.
