NisiOisin's Bishōnen Series School Mystery Novels Get Anime
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
The 10th novel in NisiOisin and Kinako's Bishōnen Series, Bishōnen Tokage Hikari-hen (Pretty Boy Lizard: Light Chapter), shipped on Friday and revealed that the series is getting an anime adaptation.
The first novel's story begins with protagonist Mayumi Dōjima, a troubled middle schooler at Yubiwa Academy. Mayumi meets and ends up employing the "Handsome Detectives," five handsome but eccentric boys rumored to solve problems and mysteries at the school through an unofficial, non-profit group.
Kodansha's novel label Kodansha Taiga released the novels' first volume, Bishōnen Tanteidan Kimi Dake ni Hikari Kagayaku Ankokusei (Pretty Boy Detective Club: The Dark Star That Shines Only for You), in October 2015. The ninth volume shipped in October 2018.
The novels inspired Suzuka Oda's Bishōnen Tanteidan (Handsome Detectives) manga series that launched in Kodansha's ARIA magazine in April 2016. The manga moved to Shonen Magazine Edge in October 2018 after ARIA ceased publication in April 2018. The manga's "first part" ended this past July, and the fifth compiled book volume shipped on September 6.
The novels, as well as NisiOisin's Monogatari and Zaregoto Series, also inspired Shibamochi's crossover manga Seishun Kijinden! 240 Gakuen (Legend of Eccentric Youth! 240 Academy) that launched in February 2017. The four-panel series ended in November 2018.
