Midori Katō, voice actress of Sazae in the anime of Machiko Hasegawa's Sazae-san manga, received the Guinness World Record for "the longest career as a voice actor for the same character in an animated television series" on Sunday. In addition, the Guinness World Records committee extended the world record for the "longest-running animated television series" for the Sazae-san anime.
In 2013, the show was awarded the Guinness World Record for longest-running animated television series.
The anime of Hasegawa's family life manga Sazae-san began airing in October 1969. The anime is usually the highest ranked animated series in Japan each week. Kato has voiced the title heroine since the anime's premiere.
The anime's 50th anniversary plans include collaborations with television programs, an exhibit, depicting real-life families in the series, a sequel stage play set 10 years after the anime, and a live-action TV special set 20 years after the anime.
