The November issue of Kodansha's Shōnen Magazine R magazine (seen right) announced on Saturday that it will move to a new monthly publishing schedule for new issues, and will be digital-only beginning with its January issue on December 20.
The January issue will also launch a new manga titled Ame no Hi mo Kami-sama to Sumō o (Sumo Wrestling With a God Even on Rainy Days). The manga is based on Kyo Shirodaira's 2016 novel of the same name. Tamaki Toga will draw the manga. The manga will be a youth mystery story set in a town where sumo wrestling remains supreme.
Ame no Hi mo Kami-sama to Sumō o will be serializing concurrently with In/Spectre (Kyokō Suiri or Invented Interface), another manga based on a Shirodaira novel. The manga recently announced that it will serialize in both Shōnen Magazine R and Monthly Shonen Magazine. Chasiba Katase launched the manga in Shōnen Magazine R in April 2015. The manga is inspiring a television anime adaptation that will premiere in January 2020.
Shōnen Magazine R launched in 2015 as a supplement for the Monthly Shonen Magazine. The magazine originally published a new issue once every two months.
