The anime will air on Tokyo MX, BS11, Gunma TV, and Tochigi TV on July 6 at 24:00 (effectively on July 7 at 12:00 a.m.), before airing a few hours later on MBS. The show will stream on 16 services in Japan. Crunchyroll will stream the anime as it airs in Japan.
"Episode 0" of the anime premiered during a television special on December 31. Crunchyroll is streaming the episode in North America, Central America, South America, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Ireland.
The anime will adapt the "Rail Zeppelin" story from the novels and also include original content, with the original content airing for the show's first half, and the "Rail Zeppelin" story airing for the show's second half.
Makoto Katō (Beautiful Bones -Sakurako's Investigation-, Bloom Into You) is directing the series at TROYCA. Ukyō Kodachi (Chaos Dragon, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations) is in charge of series composition. Jun Nakai (GATE, Silver Spoon) is designing the characters. Ei Aoki (Fate/Zero director) is credited as supervisor.
The novels center on the titular character Lord El-Melloi II — the adult Waver Velvet from Fate/Zero, and successor of Kayneth — as well as Lord El-Melloi II's apprentice Gray. The story takes place in the Clock Tower, the Mage's Association's headquarters in England. There, Lord El-Melloi II and Gray solve various mysteries of a magical nature surrounding the Mage's Association.
