posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Viz Media announced on Monday that the first chapter of Samurai 8: The Tale of Hachimaru (Samurai 8: Hachimaruden), the new manga by Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto and manga artist Akira Ōkubo, launched on its Shonen Jump website on Sunday simultaneously with its debut in Japan. New English chapters will be available for free on the website and the Shonen Jump app weekly.
In addition, the company announced that its Shonen Jump digital vault has added JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Parts 1-3 (Phantom Blood, Battle Tendency, and Stardust Crusaders); Golden Kamuy; and One-Punch Man.
The preview chapter for Samurai 8: The Tale of Hachimaru debuted in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump on April 27, and Viz Media released it simultaneously. The series' first 72-page chapter then launched in the magazine on Monday as the first new serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in the Reiwa era.
Kishimoto is in charge of the original work, and Ōkubo is drawing the manga. Ōkubo is a former assistant to Kishimoto. Shueisha had revealed at the Jump Festa '19 event in December that the manga would launch in Weekly Shonen Jump this spring. During the event, Naruto voice actress Junko Takeuchi read a comment from Kishimoto, which stated that the new manga combines his love for Japanese culture and clothing with science fiction.
