Tokyo Metropolitan Police arrested AAA lead vocalist Naoya Urata (36) on Friday on suspicion of assaulting a 20-year-old woman.
According to police, Urata was at a convenience store in Tokyo's Chuo ward around 5:30 a.m. on Friday, when he allegedly approached a woman who was not an acquaintance in the store to say "Do you wanna have a drink with me?" and "I'm a member of AAA, don't you know who I am?" After the woman responded that she did not know him, Urata allegedly slapped the woman on the left side of her face.
According to police, Urata told the police that he did not remember the incident because he was drunk.
AAA's agency Avex posted in a statement on Saturday that it was working to confirm the truth of the matter. Avex also announced on Sunday that it was cancelling a "AAA Dome Tour 2018 Color A Life Photo Museum in Tokyo" exhibition as of Sunday. The exhibition opened on Saturday. Avex stated it will refund tickets for those who have already purchased them.
The six member group debuted in 2005. AAA have performed theme songs for The One Piece, World Trigger, Sands of Destruction, and InuYasha: The Final Act anime, as well as the Initial D live-action film and the Kamen Rider Den-O show.
