posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
The official website for Tora-san ~Boku ga Neko ni Natta Wake~, the live-action film adaptation of Mina Itaba's Tora-san manga, revealed a new visual and a trailer on Friday. The trailer reveals and previews the film's theme song "Kimi o Daisuki da" (I Love You) by Kis-My-Ft2.
The film will open in Japan on February 15. Masaya Kakehi is directing the film.
Kis-My-Ft2 band member Hiromitsu Kitayama stars in the film as protagonist Suzuo Takahata, while Mikako Tabe (center in picture below) stars as Suzuo's wife Natsuko. Kokoro Hirasawa (upper left) stars as Suzuo and Natsuko's daughter Miyū.
Additional cast includes (clockwise from upper left in photographs below):
- Marie Iitoyo as Whitest, the spoiled cat who becomes Suzuo/Tora-san's confidante
- Eriko Tomiyama as Ako Sakuragi, Suzuo's editor
- Bakarhythm (Hidetomo Masuno) as the afterlife's judge who sends Suzuo back to his family as the cat Tora-san
- Jun Kaname as Eigō Uragami, a popular and charismatic manga creator
The manga's story centers on Suzuo Takahata, an unpopular manga artist who spends his days drinking and gambling until one day, he dies from an accident. In a place in the afterlife where people are assigned to their next lives, he manages to be reincarnated as a cat, and is able to return to his family for a limited time.
The manga launched in Shueisha's You magazine in 2014, and Shueisha published the manga's second compiled book volume in February 2017. To commemorate the film, the manga resumed serialization on You last March, but moved to Shueisha's Cocohana magazine last November since You ceased publication last October.
