A live-action film adaptation of Mina Itaba's Tora-san manga has been green-lit for 2019. Masaya Kakehi is directing the film. Kis-My-Ft2 band member Hiromitsu Kitayama stars in the film as protagonist Suzuo Takahata, while Mikako Tabe (center in picture below) stars as Suzuo's wife Natsuko. Kokoro Hirasawa (upper left) stars as Suzuo and Natsuko's daughter Miyū.
The manga's story centers on Suzuo Takahata, an unpopular manga artist who spends his days drinking and gambling until one day, he dies from an accident. In a place in the afterlife where people are assigned to their next lives, he manages to be reincarnated as a cat, and is able to return to his family for a limited time.
The manga launched in Shueisha's You magazine in 2014, and Shueisha published the manga's second compiled book volume in February 2017. To commemorate the film's announcement, the manga will resume serialization on You in the magazine's April issue on March 15.
