posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
The official Twitter account for the live-action television series of Hiromi Ōkubo's Setsuyaku Rock (Rock Savings) manga revealed on Monday that comedian Cookie (Kunihiro Kawashima) will play the God of Rock, an original character in the show. The character exists only in the mind of protagonist Takao as a result of all the rock music he has listened to, and takes the appearance of many rock stars, such as Jimi Hendrix and Freddie Mercury.
The staff also showed the Cookie in costume as the God of Rock under the guise of various different rock stars.
As previously announced, KAT-TUN member Tatsuya Ueda (right below) is starring in the series as Takao. Johnny's West member Daiki Shigeoka (left below) co-stars as Kōta Inaba, Takao's handsome rival. Hayashi Mori is penning the scripts, and Hidehiro Kawai is composing the music. Kaku Mizuno, Atsushi Okamoto, and Kai Ōe are directing the series.
Other cast members include:
The show will premiere on NTV on January 21 at 24:59 (effectively January 22 at 12:59 a.m.).
The comedy manga centers on Takao Matsumoto, a 30-year-old bachelor who has no savings and loves rock music. The original manga ran in Kodansha's Morning magazine in 2017, and Kodansha published the one compiled volume on January 23.
Ōkubo's Hito wa Mita Me ga 100 Percent (Woman's All About the Looks.) manga inspired a live-action television series that premiered on Fuji TV in April 2017.
