The story is set 20 years after Hoshi no Hitomi no Silhouette. The story follows Yuzuki Setogawa, a new college student who meets an attractive man on the day of her entrance ceremony.
The original manga ran in Shueisha's Ribon magazine from 1985-1989. The manga follows best friends Kasumi and Mariko, who both fall in love with the same person. The series' catchphrase is "a bible for 2.5 million girls."
A sequel titled Hoshi no Hitomi no Silhouette ~Engage~ followed the characters as they graduated high school and began college. The first two chapters of Engage debuted in the 1990s, and the sequel continued in 2015 with new chapters that were compiled into a volume titled Hoshi no Hitomi no Silhouette -Seishun Finale- (Youth Finale) in 2017.
Hiiragi also drew the Mimi o Sumaseba (Whisper of the Heart) and Baron: The Cat Returns manga, which both inspired anime films from Studio Ghibli.
