posted on by Karen Ressler
HIDIVE announced on Friday that it will stream the anime film The Tibetan Dog in the United States and Canada on October 8. The stream will be available with English subtitles or with the English dub.
Section23 Films' Maiden Japan imprint released the film on Blu-ray Disc on July 10 with an English dub. The company previously announced plans to stream the anime.
Maiden Japan describes the film's coming-of-age story:
After the death of his mother, Tenzin decides to leave his town to live with his father in the grasslands of Tibet. In a new place, with new people and while learning to become a sheepherder, Tenzin will find help in the most unexpected way, through a golden Tibetan guard dog which will change his life forever by becoming his greatest friend.
The anime is a Japanese/Chinese joint production directed by Masayuki Kojima (Monster, Made in Abyss) at the anime Studio Madhouse. Shigeru Fujita (Monster) adapted the original character designs, created by Monster and 20th Century Boys manga creator Naoki Urasawa, for animation.
The film premiered in Japan in 2011. It screened at France's Annecy International Animation Film Festival in 2011 and at Ontario's Waterloo Festival of Animated Cinema in 2012.
