Pop Team Epic Anime Gets April 1 TV Special
posted on by Egan Loo
The "Pop Team Epic special Event ~Pop Cast Epic!!~" announced in Chiba on Sunday that a new Pop Team Epic television anime special will air on April 1, 2019. More details on the program have yet to be determined, but the anime's official website will provide them later.
The anime adapts a surreal four-panel manga by Bkub Okawa that centers around two 14-year-old girls, the short Popuko and the tall Pipimi.
The earlier Pop Team Epic television anime series premiered on January 6. HIDIVE, Funimation, Crunchyroll, AsianCrush, and Amazon Prime Video all streamed the anime as it aired in Japan. Adult Swim's Toonami block began airing Pop Team Epic beginning the night of June 30 at 12:00 a.m. (effectively the morning of July 1).
The television series' "Bob Epic Team" ("Bobunemimimmi") segments were compiled into a standalone Blu-ray Disc release that include all 22 previously released segments by the production team AC-bu, plus two new segments, a "high speed kamishibai (paper theater) collection" of the "Hellshake Yano" segment, and original stickers. The Blu-ray release debuted during this weekend's event.
April 1, 2019 will mark the second anniversary of the original announcement for the anime adaptation.
