Former Morning Musume idol Hitomi Yoshizawa (33) was arrested in Tokyo under suspicion of a hit-and-run.
According to the police, Yoshizawa was driving under the influence of alcohol at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday when she hit a female biker on a crosswalk, and then left the scene. Yoshizawa allegedly ignored a red light before entering the crosswalk. Both the biker and a nearby man sustained light injuries.
About 15 minutes after the collision, Yoshizawa called the police herself and said she hit a bicycle.
Yoshizawa's agency provided a statement saying it does not currently have any details yet, but offered an apology for the situation and promised to deal with it fairly.
Yoshizawa joined the Morning Musume idol group in 2000 and became group leader in 2005. She graduated from the group in 2007, but has continued to work in the entertainment industry as a talent. She played small roles in the Tottoko Hamutarō: Ham Ham Ham - Jya! Maboroshi no Princess anime film and Kirarin Revolution television anime during her tenure with Morning Musume.
