The official website for the film adaptation of Hideki Arai's Itoshi no Irene (Irene of Love) manga began streaming a trailer on Friday. The video teases a "walk down the wedding aisle of hell" for "a man who bought happiness" and "a girl who dreams of happiness."
The film opens in Japan on September 14.
Keisuke Yoshida (live-action Silver Spoon, Himeanōru) is directing the film and penning the script. The film stars Ken Yasuda as main character Iwao Shishido. Yoshida held an audition in the Philippines to cast newcomer actress Shitoi Nattsu as his wife.
The film centers on Iwao Shishido, who at age forty suddenly leaves his rural village, but returns with a foreign bride during his father's funeral.
Arai published the manga in Shogakukan's Big Comic Spirits magazine from 1995 to 1996. Shogakukan published six compiled book volumes for the manga. Ohta Publishing reprinted the manga in two collected volumes in 2010 and 2011.
