Tsuburaya's Redman Series Inspires American Comic Book
posted on by Karen Ressler
Night Shining Inc., the company that runs the Pete's Robot Convention event, announced last Thursday that it will publish a comic series based on Tsuburaya Productions' classic tokusatsu series Redman. The comic is titled Redman: The Kaiju Hunter.
Matt Frank (Godzilla, Transformers) is providing the art and Gonçalo Lopes (Bio Wars, Dodge City) is the colorist.
The first full-color, 128-page volume will ship in June. Akihabara-based American comics store Blister Comic will release a Japanese edition with alternate cover art on May 30. Night Shining is also offering Redman pin sets and t-shirts.
Night Shining describes the story:
Trapped in a desolate and yet somehow familiar world populated with an vast array of the ferocious beasts known as "Kaiju," Redman continues his endless Red Fight, battling tirelessly to cull the monsters. With each fierce battle, the mysterious, blood-splattered "hero" sinks closer to his prey, ready to strike. This while a sinister form watches and records his every move...
Tsuburaya Productions' original 138-episode series debuted on April 24, 1972 and ended in October of the same year. Each episode had a five-minute runtime.
