Nintendo: No Plans for Virtual Console on Switch
posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Nintendo told the Kotaku website on Tuesday that it currently has no plans to continue its Virtual Console brand of classic game releases on the Switch console. While the report does not state that Nintendo will not continue to provide ports and revisions of classic games on the Switch, it confirms that the company has no plans to do so under its previous Virtual Console brand.
Nintendo recently announced a new feature for subscribers to its upcoming Switch Online service that will allow users to play a selection of classic NES titles, some with added online features. The service will launch in September.
Nintendo currently operates the Virtual Console library for its Wii, Wii U, and 3DS systems. The library uses software emulation on their respective systems to allow users to purchase and play classic arcade and console games from Nintendo.
